Joe shifted himself while he settled into the plate that was brought to him from the kitchen. It smelt really good and this can only mean that it would also taste good.

Karen looked at Joe while she inspected her plate of the chicken rossini which looked more like a work of art, rather than something you would eat.

Nevertheless the smell and piping smoke made the dish very appetizing and irresistible and she just realized how hungry she was.

Joe is often the speed eater and he never fathomed why some people just don’t eat first and then do all the talking afterward.

But he realized that with Karen, the part of the fun was going to be to enjoy the dinner while talking to her.

In any case, he can show off his dinner table manners by eating slowly with his mouth closed, he thought.

Joe instinctively began to put small morsels of food in his mouth and then would lay down his cutlery and then look up at Karen, this he did almost repetitively.

“So”, Joe started saying, brimming with a sense of renewed confidence as he rested his arms on the edge of the table.

“What kind of things do you like to do… do you like to listen to music…”.

Karen looked up and smiled, “yes, I do, but don’t get the chance to listen to that much music”.

Joe mused for a while and understood what she meant.

“Yes, I know what you mean, you get a sudden burst of energy to listen to music but you just cant seem to keep it going like others can.

They can have music plugged into their ears all day long and have music while they work. I can’t seem to do that”.

“Yes, exactly”, said Karen with some enthusiasm and a nod.

“It has its place when you want to, just like TV”.

“Do you like watching movies, what kind of movies do you like”, Joe continued just to keep the conversation going.

“My favorite movie of all time, which I saw the other day, The Sound of Music with Julie Andrews”.

“For some reason, I could watch that movie a thousand times and never get bored”.

Joe thought for a moment, because he knew people’s interest and taste in movies can music can reflect something of their own inner character.

He thought it was very fitting that Karen should like this movie, just because her personality was of a child-like innocence and a strong connection to the family affairs.

“I am guessing..”, Joe paused for a second, “that you are more close to your father”.

Karen looked at Joe in amazement and blurted, “wow, you can tell this, just by knowing me this short time!”

Joe realized he scored a brownie point here, it was a matter of guess on his part but somehow deep inside he felt this was the case with Karen, but he didn’t know why.

He on the other hand was more close to his mother.
