Dr. Dato’s Brief:
The article talks about potential scams to be aware of in the online dating world. In the case of Susan who thought she had met her ideal man was gradually becoming suspicious of his activities so she hired an investigator to track his activities. She found later that he was bankrupt and was married.
Some folks have been unfortunate enough to have got married only to find the next day that their entire belongings and life savings was stolen by the person they married and who had disappeared altogether.
These stories are likely very few and could happen to any one of us. The important thing is to be cautious but not overly cautious creating resentment in your relationship. It is best to get to know the person as well as you can and to get to know them in their own social environment ie. the habitat they live in with friends, family, relatives etc. In this way you will likely get a better picture of what kind of a person he/she is just by interacting with others.
My thinking is that most of the unfortunate situations arise from individuals who are completely immersed in their own world and ignore the social interactions with others. By interacting and doing things along with other people can paint a better picture of the person and their characteristics and personality. This will give you more confidence and trust to take the relationship further or not.

winning genuine trust requires effort in a social environment
