In time, no doubt we will see the use of more voice-activated controls and smarter controls that follow the behavior of our search patterns that show instant and relevant results.

There maybe hurdles to cross in the privacy concerns area but at the end of the day more people look to convenience in their busy daily lives.

At one time, we have often talked about ‘killer applications’ and how it will change the way we work and shape our daily lives when it comes to the PC, Mac and the Internet.

It is hard for us to visualize what other game changing ideas can possibly come onto this stage now that will have a dramatic shift in our lifestyles.

We have witnessed great changes and developments in the last 15 years and some may argue that it has been disruptive to the work environment ie. Facebook.

Others may see an enhancement of the work environment ie. the free flow of information, accessibility of communication etc.

Time will only tell in what direction we are heading towards and how it will affect our lifestyles and relationships.

However, we must remember that is the demands of our collective needs (we the people) that are shaping the way that company’s are thinking for our future.

Abeni grew increasingly restless as some of the kids circling Mr. Odui were blocking the monitor making it difficult to see what was going on.

He desperately wanted to see what Mr. Odui was doing to get information on the screen while most of the kids were just fixated by the content flashing on the screen.

Abeni was a much more curious cat when it came to understanding how things worked.

He remembered how he had dismantled their home VCR and the remote control just to see how things worked.

Unfortunately, he realized too late after he had opened the devices that he was as clueless before and after when the damage was done.

He was expecting some kind of moving parts to tell him how they worked.

Today, he is a lot smarter, because he was the kind of person that ‘ignorance’ is a challenge and spent the next week trying to get his head around the marvels of silicon technology.

Though some parts of this incredible technology were very grey to him, he was still able to relate to the incident of the VCR and the remote control.

The only moving mechanism was the VCR spool that reads the tape and converts the signal and sends it to the TV.

The remote control is simply a device that sends electromagnetic waves to the VCR and interprets the key that was pressed into the remote control.

The actual ‘silicon chip’ that sends out the signals are called infra red transmitter.

Abeni was naturally proud and somewhat pleased with his grasp of this technology where most kids would have given up a long time ago.

Mr. Odui had a great fondness for Abeni and could clearly see the great drive and passion this boy had in learning.

Their previous encounter together involved discussing ‘silicon technology’ and although Abeni lacked full appreciation of some of the terminologies and concepts, he did see a side of him that he didn’t see in many other kids.

This drew him even closer to Abeni.

“Abeni” shouted Mr. Odui as he spotted him in the corner of his eyes, “come over here, I want to show you something”.

The kids gawped at Abeni in amazement and soon a sea of black sun-burnt bodies parted like the red sea as Abeni made his way to the center.

“Look, look”, the teacher said beckoning Abeni to come and sit with him and pointing to the pieces of dark plastic around him which seemed like something from outer space had landed there.

Abeni sat besides Mr. Odui and looked on in amazement as he explained what he was doing. “I click this button and we end up in Gooogle, see and we can type anything here to search” the teacher said gloating.

Truly this was a sight for Abeni and he felt a deep sense of admiration of the power behind all this technology and the people with brains to have come up with all this and the ideas!
