However, some people may not develop sufficiently to overcome their weaknesses and they will continue to have insecure feelings of shyness which carry them into adulthood.

Unfortunately, shyness can have a stifling effect on our capacity to grow as a human and hinder us from finding suitable partners or interacting at a mature level.

The question is how do we overcome some of the negative effects of shyness so that we can feel comfortable around other people especially to the opposite sex.

In order to accomplish the first task is to find it within ourselves to accept unequivocally that we are shy.

This question can appear unusual to the individual who is shy, since it is considered fairly obvious.

However, this is not the case, there may be individuals with a personality trait who project this problem as not emanating from them but the world around them has an issue.

They may feel that they are somewhat shy but their sense of the world is distorted with an opinion that is based on unrealism.

There may be other reasons too where the repressed feelings is very contained and it is difficult to see beyond it without psychological counseling and help.

This type of disorder can lead to problems in trying to tackle the real problems of shyness since there have been no real acceptance of the problem.

However, most of us are built differently and the resolution of shyness can be fairly easy and comes from routine training and regular practice.

We have surmised that the first task of tackling shyness requires an understanding and acceptance of the problem.

The next task requires us to reflect on how we deal with our self in a open social environment.

Typically a normal behavior of a shy person while in a group engaged in a discussion is to remain quiet and let the others talk it out.

The shy person may feel involved in the discussion but indirectly many internal feelings and thoughts are going on inside of the shy person.

There is a tendency for the shy person to say something but all the time restraining from saying anything in case it didn’t come out correctly.

This kind of self consciousness is more acute in the shy person and it is precisely this that prevents the person from saying much during the conversation.

One must also be able to differentiate a shy person from a quiet person.

A quiet person may not necessarily be shy but it is a normal human personality trait where the person would choose to say little but listen more into the conversation.

Equally on the other end of the spectrum we have seen very extroverted person who will say everything that pops into their head and they may even dominate the whole conversation.

A shy person can be recognized from a sense of uncomforting glances or presence that he/she emanates to the group.

The person would rather be elsewhere not because of boredom but because he/she becomes more anxious and incompetent to contribute to the discussion.

As you can see shyness can stem from a ‘distorted’ viewpoint that has been virtualized up by the person which in actual fact has little resemblance to the real situation.

This ‘distortion’ as it were can make the person feel very uneasy and deeply inadequate to the group as a whole.

One of the most common traits of shyness comes from parental pressures where we were constantly told what we can do and what we cannot.

If by chance the parent exerts fears into the child at a social event, the child with its innocent mind may become increasingly introverted and say nothing rather than face the wrath of the parents.

Parents should make note. Often parents are also quick to stop their child in saying anything that is outside of what they expect to hear in a social gathering which can lead to problems later for the child.
