Men and women have a completely different biological makeup which affects the way they develop physically as well as their mind which can affect mood, interests, drive etc.
Understanding these traits can bring both men and women together and have a more satisfying and fulfilling lives.

There are some unique common qualities that can be appreciated in both men and women and make them stand apart with other differences being unique to every individual such as taste, admbition etc.
I will try to address some of the qualities that are important to both men and women that matter specifically to relationships.

Since the beginning of time when the world conceived of men and women living in tiny numbers there was a strong necessity for those humans to huddle together as packs which allowed them to adapt to the harsh conditions of the world and survive and grow.
Like all primitive animals, we all have natural urges and this was the desire to feed ourselves to survive, mate with the opposite sex, rear children and defend our existence and livelihood.
Men quickly found out that comradeship with other humans were beneficial to their survival despite the daily challenges of sharing food, women and habitats with other male species.

Instinctively roles were identified with men providing food, shelter for their women whilst women reared their children, cooked and prepared food.
It became apparent that this kind of structure in these tiny settlements would only attract other passer bys and the settlement would grow to large numbers.

This required more adaptability and rules to be applied into the community and the settlements continue to flourish and language took hold as means of effective communication.
People protected each other and there elected heads of groups to provide some set of governing rules that all can abide by.
Man ultimately became the Lords of the planet.

Today, we all have our primal urges which are put in check with the social rules developed by governing bodies trying to maintain a sense of freedom while keeping us safe and living harmoniously with each oter.
We still retain the ability to grow as an adult, fit into the community, eat and survive, find mates and follow our dreams to within these social boundaries.
todays society is complex
The myriad of social rules and the demand placed on each household of the community can introduce many challenges to the members of the household if we do not fully understand and appreciate it.
Today there are more demands for us to provide into the social system as well as receiving many benefits of the system such as entertainment, toys etc.

This provides a good interlude to our discussion of how our biological and primal needs in context of our social behavior can impact the way a man and a woman live together.
The basic fundamental rules for women over the span of thousands of years have not changed and women at their core look for men as providers and protectors.

The premise for woman is the absolute necessity of the need for survival and to continue her genes with the partner she will mate.
These include food, shelter, rearing children and able to adapt to the future as well as continue her gene pool.
Therefore her selection of suitable mates is dictated by the above. Today, many men can fulfill those roles and there are many choices open to both men and women.
Since we are living in a modern world where the basic necessities are met, the question is what other parameters in this modern world do we look to?
