Chinese New Year 2011 by Gloria your Personal Horoscope Expert
Have you noticed the Supermarkets have reduced the price of Chinese foods? Buy one get on free? Noodles, Chicken in Black Bean Sauce? Sweet and Sour meals?
Well, we are poised to celebrate the Chinese New Year!
When? The first day of this New Year, the year of the Rabbit, falls on 3rd, February 2011.
Chinese New Year lasts for 15 days but the first 2 days are the ones people traditionally celebrate.
The celebrations usually begin a month before when the house is cleaned (to get rid of all the bad luck from the year before), new clothes and shoes are bought (should wear red and gold, these are lucky colors!), decorations and posters wishing everyone wealth, good health and happiness are hung up. Cakes, biscuits and cookies are baked to give to friends and relatives. Nowadays, presents are bought rather than home cooked offerings given.
On New Year’s Eve, the whole family come together (just like Christmas) for a huge gathering around a meal. Like Christmas, sometimes many families group together to make it a feast at an expensive restaurant. On New Year’s day itself, the children will wake up early in high expectancy. They will receive a red packet containing money given to them by their parents. In short, those who are earning will give to those who are not fortunate enough to be earning. So an unmarried daughter in the olden days will also receive a red packet. The rest of the day is spent visiting friends and relatives especially those who are too old to travel. Presents are given and news is exchanged.
There could be a visit to the Temple to pay tributes to our ancestors by burning joss sticks and incense.
This year, the year of the Rabbit is thought to be calm and tranquil. Last year, the Year of the Tiger had so many upheavals that this year should bring a sigh of relief to couples or would be couples looking for some peace and calm in their life. The international and political scene should calm down and it may be that those who govern may find that persuasion is better than force and more reasonable actions could result from this. However we should guard against being too complacent, too relaxed and overly lazy that we put off doing unpleasant tasks for as long as possible.
A person born in the year of the Rabbit is endowed with good luck. So for couples who are having a baby, you have picked a good year indeed. The Rabbit is gracious, has good judgement and appreciates beauty. He/she is graceful, softly spoken, has a calm and peaceful personality and a sense of discretion. These are the qualities of a future diplomat/politician or someone who may go into law or government.
On the downside, he could be moody, withdrawn, dreamy, working things out in his mind in a world of his own.
He will probably have a long life…. longevity and good luck goes with this sign!
Other Rabbits include King Bhumibol of Thailand, Albert Einstein, Queen Victoria and David Frost!

Online Dating Briefs by Dr. Dato - Online dating site Plenty of Fish hacked

Dr. Dato’s Brief:
Oddly enough, I was signing into Plentyoffish.com website only the other day and my password wouldn’t work, so thinking nothing of it, I had a new password sent to me through the ubiquitous ‘Forgot Password’ link.
Unfortunately, this is a problem that most big sites and not just dating sites have to contend with. You can put all the security measures in place but hackers will eventually find a backdoor to your site and this puts not just the company but the private data of users in jeopardy.
The only cure is to do as much preventive work as possible and monitor the activities of the site and in particular the activities related to maintaining the site which usually is done through a backend online system.

Plentyoffish.com - security is an issue from hackers

The “Social Dating” Revolution has Arrived: Badoo.com Surpasses 100m Users, by Mixing Social Networking and Online Dating

Dr. Dato’s Brief:
The article talks about a rising star badoo.com which claims to have found a way of connecting online dating with the social media (ie. facebook). You will find a review of this site in our Free Dating Site Reviews.
The claims made seem like astonishing figures ie. surpassing 100 million users which I would think is a bit of an exaggeration. However, when checking its ranking in terms of traffic it stands at a creditable position of 565 sandwiched comfortably between dishnetwork.com and job.com.
Also, you need to be aware how websites can turn the figures to their advantage. For example 100 million users does not mean 100 million users signed up and this can be confirmed by the large counter on their site which clearly says ‘people are already here!’

badoo.com - many users but probably fewer members!

Dr. Dato’s Brief:
This article talks about a new site ‘Needarealdate.com’and claims that although there are many dating sites out there, the new site has much better interactive features. My take is what good is a highly interactive website when its new and has limited number of member base? How are you going to get those dates, having interactive sites will not get you those dates, unless they have a dating guru that magically formulates your ideal partner.
I checked out the site and couldn’t see anything that would entice me to sign-up, but you may give it a try.
