Dr. Dato’s Brief:
A rather interesting discussion on a forum board where users have been asked to write about their experiences of online dating.
Having read through the replies, it would seem that many people not only have mixed success on the dating sites but they are still adamant and slightly fearful of some of these dating sites. I guess to some degree, it is the same emotional feeling one gets when some think about the prospect of finding that ‘right’ someone in their daily lives.
Although we hear a great deal about how all these dating sites out there are have changed everyones lives by making connections, marriages, lasting relationships and finding true love, a majority of us can still be doubtful as to its effectiveness. I would put this down to a very human thing and for whatever reasons all of us still have anxieties, hangups, insecurities that needs to be crossed to make us believe that it can work for us.

We may need to renew our faith in ourselves to find success in dating

Dr. Dato’s Brief:
The title of this article is not fitting to the content of this article. It should be more like “How to create the perfect profile to attract the must-have men out there”. Nevertheless, the article does make several good points especially to people who want to improve their chances in the online dating world.
It focuses initially on the female profiles where the needs of a woman may come often come across differently than the online profile suggests. The writer recommends to be honest and use creative ways to express yourself instead of rambling on about what you want in the other partner. For example, talk about action items such as “planning a bicycle trip, writing a book and redecorating my living room.” Also, “I’m a good friend and a good listener and right now I have a friend going out of town and I’m dog-sitting for her poodle,” Action items are what men usually look for and if woman want a man who is wealthy and ambitious, they should reflect some of that in their nature.
For men, an ideal profile would be more verbiage since women like to know that the man has more substance.
Ironically, the message seems to be that women should write more bullet points whereas men should put more verbiage against their profile.

Dr. Dato’s Brief:
Online dating or dating in general can come with its own set of risks as this article says.
Due to the physical build of a girl or woman, they are more susceptible to physical harm by say men and violence has been noted as very prominent here in USA and its not getting any better.
The signs to watch out for is of course abusive people when it comes to sex and also financial and emotional abuse. As we are living in an economy where unemployment is strife, financial issues can often lead people to desperation and abusive behavior.
Typically in online dating, my recommendation is to go on a date where there are no hidden agendas, ie. partner looking for financial gain, gaining control or quick sexual gratification. These often lead to unhappy relationships and both partners need their own space to be understood and respected.

dating relationship requires respecting each others needs

Dr. Dato’s Brief:
If you start by saying how the online industry has changed people’s lives ie. paying bills online, checking your bank accounts etc. then you won’t be surprised to learn that life has gotten easier for online daters too! This comes in the shape of ‘profile creation” which are being offered by a number of different sites.
We all know how hard it can be to create that ‘perfect’ profile on all these online dating sites, so some creative thinkers got thinking and started their online services where they create your profile for a small fee. They will produce a 500 word profile with all the proper grammar and screened for spelling errors. Although, the idea seems very novel, I can’t imagine that many people using this kind of service.
At the end of the day, you are essentially answering questions that are also posed in the dating sites that you are trying to join, plus you have to break down the 500 word essay to fit the site of your choice. A better idea for these sites would be to create profiles according to the dating sites that you intend to join. For example, having a ‘profile-ready’ answers to some of the dating sites such as match.com, plentyoffish.com, jumpdates.com and so on. Maybe I should patent this idea, who knows?

can someone better than you write your own dating profile?

Dr. Dato’s Brief:
This is a very good article on the various aspects of online dating, particularly if you are a newbie but it also helps old-timers to get out of their bad habits that they may have developed.
The post breaks down into categories the important parts related to online dating and they include the following;
- 1. Find the right dating site
- 2. Make the right profile
- 3. Get the right photograph
- 4. Have a positive attitude
- 5. Don’t take everyone seriously
- 6. Keep interactions light
- 7. Don’t speak about your past
- 8. Do not mention sex or sexual preferences
- 9. Giving out personal information should be avoided
- 10. Arrange to meet
All the sections provide sound advice and I can elaborate and add a few pointers myself to some of the sections:
3. Get the right photograph
It’s important not just to have a good primary photo but also a selection of photos that shows you in your element. For example, if you like dancing, gardening etc. to show you in that activity. Make sure that the primary photo clearly shows your face and is not obscured because people are often attracted by the faces and if you don’t have a clear photo, other members are likely to make an assumption about your looks and you could potentially lose some of those members.
4. Don’t take everyone seriously:
This is a very valid point, because in online dating, people don’t often think too hard when they write something. You may find someone you had a struck a good repertoire sounds offensive all of a sudden. This maybe due to the time constraint that people have in their daily lives and it is not always meant to be personal.
The final point I wanted to add and if there was an 11th point to this article is don’t give up! It takes time, patience and energy to find the person of your dreams. After all, lets say in the world of no online dating sites, would you give up the hunt for your partner that easily?

online dating world requires much patience to find your ideal mate!
