Here the article points to the real dangers of meeting someone for the first time on a date and a woman becoming a victim of sexual assault. In truth, the incident could very well happen if the two had met outside of dating for example in a club, restaurant or any other public place.

There are several steps one should take to ensure the safety of the individual whenever you go out for a date with a stranger for the first time. I will go further and add the following;

- Meet in a public place
- Tell someone or friend you can trust where you are going and ask them to call you later in the evening
- Follow your instincts (these are primeval forces in all of us that has protected men and women through the ages)
- Do not give out any of your personal information
- Before you go out on any dates, find out as much as you can about the person, talk to them on the phone

Here is an interesting post on the subject of computers and gadgets which are consuming more and more peoples time and using these as communication devices to contact other people. The effect of this as the MIT Professor Sherry Turkle points out is that it is making us all “Less Human”.

Her argument is that we are building relationships with computers and technology and the more dependent we become on technology the less human we become.

I have actually reported this in my article “Why communication is more important to us than it has ever been” where the effects of technology may impair our lifestyles to communicate effectively with other humans. The long-term repercussions of placing technology between humans could potentially have dire consequences to mankind’s evolution and something we cannot ignore.

I will review more of Sherry Turkle’s work and provide my own account of some of the implications and importance of this subject matter to all of us humans.

Look and Feel

Look and feel of the site is excellent with dark grey background and peppy buttons of red and green buttons giving it a nice and inviting look. The sign up and beginning button is in green and for last fm user (existing member can login) the button is to the right in red. The colors on the home page match each other well and the overall look is good but not that eye catching.

Registration Process

For registration you have to enter your country, the partners gender, and most important items that you have to enter are the three favorite bands of your choice. To simplify the sign up process, the website has the option of logging in via facebook account which is my favorite way of doing things as it reduces time and effort on my part. They will send you a confirmation mail. Just click or copy the link provided and you are ready to use your Tastebuds account. However, it took me nearly 12 hours for me to get the verification mail; this may be due to some technical problem as they had apologized for this delay.

Login and Customizing Profile

Login is simple as you just have to enter the email and password. As soon as you login, you will find neatly and properly placed icons on the top of the page from where you can find the section to look for your matches. On the left side of the page you can readily see the % completion of your profile and you can make this to read 100% simply by uploading a photo, a few words about yourself and adding more artists.

You can tell your friends about tastebuds by sending them a mail directly through the site. You can share your profile both on twitter and facebook.

Photo Profile Selection

The link with the facebook makes it a breeze to import your photos from your facebook account but you still have the option of uploading photos directly from your computer. Unlike other dating sites there doesn’t appear to be any rules set for the types of photos you can upload. You are allowed to upload photos with children, group photos, or celebrity photos.

You can share photos with others by creating your own photo albums. But only jpg or .png file should be used. Cropping and deleting the photos directly online is also available.

Browse and Search Feature

Browsing is easy as different menus are placed distinctively on the top. Searching is what I always enjoy discussing as this is the backbone of any dating website. As I searched, I found many people that closely matches with me. I felt that the search feature is the biggest USP (universal selling point) of this site, as the search is conducted by your favorite band and results in profiles with the same tastes (no pun intended). You can also actual match with your other favorite bands. The event icon lets you know about the concerts that are taking place and the matches who are attending the concerts. In the account summary you can see all your favorites and fans. Having searched though the site extensively, many profiles I found are music lovers between the age group of 18 and 30. This is expected in the genre of music lovers today with emphasis on concerts and events.
