I thought I might reflect on one point mentioned by a previous dating coach on getting and acquiring dates through online dating sites. Here advice was to have at least 3-5 dates a week and this can easily fit into a busy schedule providing the encounters are kept brief and held in places like coffee shops.

Although this seems like a marathon run, it is feasible but I would caution that it ventures into the realm of speed dating where little repertoire can be established between the two individuals for the sake of time. Realistically in a relationship between two people, both need to feel comfortable with each other and this can take time and needs to be given ample time.

Unfortunately, setting goals based on going through as many individuals as possible may widen the catch pool but finding someone who is truly compatible with you will require a different mindset. Many people rely on the world of numbers and adhere to hard facts to make their decisions but whoever said that love comes by in numbers and happens when you least expect it!

When you decide to meet in person for a date, do not do this over the email or instant messenger, talk to them over the phone and then decide on a public place to meet.

Since its highly likely that you will be living local you should decide to meet at least half-way and in a public place such as a McDonalds, Starbucks or other reputable public establishments. I would recommend on the first date to keep the conversation light and so don’t rely on a dinner date since this may weigh on both individuals in terms of cost and time especially if there is no chemistry between the two.

It has often been found from reading people’s comments on the first date that the conversation over the phone was very different to the actual meeting. As one lady put it, ‘it was a very awkward conversation’ and this is often because some people are poor communicators over the phone than in person and vice versa.

The tools I was talking about in the last post are any communication tools that are available on the online dating sites such as IM, voice chat and now even video chat. Having just an IM chat can tell you much about this person just like a voice chat which can also be over the phone.

Your brain will be working full time when you chat with them in real-time because you will be assessing and trying to visualize what kind of a person you are speaking to.

Make sure to follow your gut feelings about this person and pay attention to any red-flags that ensue after the conversation. Do not think that you must date or see this person simply because you think there are no other ‘fish’ in the sea….that would be a bad mistake. Keep your head up high and know that there are many other people online, just around the corner, that could be a great catch for you.

Make sure to study the profile carefully to look for discrepancies in dates, events that don’t match up etc. The other important thing that most women have to contend with is whether the man is married or single and they know some men will lie about their current status. Usually women can tell this by the time of the day they decide to chat and other excuses made for not turning up etc. because married persons have commitment to their family.

Before going on a date in person, try to use all the tools available on the website for you to get to know this person well enough to make that first date commitment with them.
