Dr. Dato’s Brief:
With Valentine’s Day just round the corner, here are more handy tips to make you an online dating expert.
The suggestions I have seen repeated time and time again is to be honest and be truthful in your profile. Just think about it, if you were to meet the other person and you ended up liking that person, you will have to do some serious explaining about your ‘fibs’ and this may lead to distrust and in the worst case he/she drops you. It may sound appealing to fib about something just to make sure you pull in those profiles but at the end of the day it’s not worth it.
Instead of telling fibs, why not just simply make the rest of your profile more interesting. Just to give you some example, lets say have a pet peev about your age, why not say something like “I maybe (age), but I am fit as a fiddle and love sports”.
Another example, “I am working hard to keep in shape and hopefully my partner will want the same”
Another important aspect of online dating, is to be persistent and treat it with passion so you will enjoy looking over profiles, responding to emails, receiving emails and in this way you will most definitely increase your chances of finding a great partner.

Dr. Dato’s Brief:
This is an independent post on the subject of what we can expect to see in the online dating scene in the coming years ahead.
The shape of the online industry has changed over the last decade with the birth of match.com, eharmony and some of the free dating sites such as plentyoffish.com, jumpdates.com, okCupid etc.
Today a majority of these sites have a rich set of features which makes online dating more easier to use than before. We don’t have any of the clunky features many years back on search, instant messaging and other communication tools. The years ahead will provide some exciting features to the end user as well as providing increased challenges to the dating company. Technology is fashioning our lifestyle to such a degree that our expectations are correspondingly higher and thus online dating companies will have to be more creative and innovating to meet the demands of its end user.
Although match technology has been around with us for a while it has not worked sufficiently well for us to feel completely enamored by it. This area will need drastic improvements. Take Google for example, under the hood of the largest search engine in the world, Google is examining human behavior at atomistic levels and this equally needs to be translated to the online dating front. In the future our ’search results’ will be almost humanistically correct to the degree where we can assume AI (artificial intelligence) has finally been born. A barely unheard of company that started in the mid 90s doing data-mining is now one of the fastest growing companies in the world, the company is called Autonomy. They simply are parsing data at a much more intelligent level and this is what we need to do for any types of website that makes use of data. The important point is that we need to convert and make sense of this data in a humanistic way and this implies building highly efficient AI systems and algorithms that we are only scraping through today.

we are likely to see more AI being applied to dating sites

This post goes into details of the history of online dating, naming successful companies such as match and eharmony see no end to the growth in the online dating industry. In addition, new technology making use of smartphones and GPS are finding their way into this area although the article doesn’t’ go into much details in this area.
A few issues that usually plague online dating sites include, not being honest with the profile, many scammers on the site, and the overload of too many profiles making it difficult to filter through them. Matchmaking technology has been mentioned and companies claim that their technology works in several levels of personality dimensions in finding your suitable partners. Personally, I don’t believe any matching technology out there can work as described because the human nature and its interaction with each are way too complex to narrow it down to a handful of personality traits.
Despite some of the issues faced by dating companies, the online dating industry is not yet saturated and more and more people are clambering on this bandwagon looking for love. Expect to see more players coming into this market and equally more players falling off the market. This is why its important that you put your energy on sites that will work for you. Look for dating companies that have been around for many years to be in the safe bet.

Here is another angle to online dating, it seems that people are never short of ideas to pair up couples in the best way possible!
The post describes a site called virtualdatingassistants.com who does the work of online dating for you. For their basic service of $360 per month, VIDA (virtualdatingassistants) will scour three online dating sites and create your own profiles, retouch your digital photo and they will correspond with potential candidates.
If you are feeling more ambitious then you can opt for their “executive package” which will fetch you back $1,440 per month. This entitles you to their ‘date concierge service’ where you have an executive briefing with someone, a professional photo session and much more.
The VIDA founder Scott Valdez has told Wall Street that he has been able to narrow down the email exchanges to a potential suitor to a mere five rather than the seven it takes for some other companies.
For such a website to be successful it needs a good amount of testimonials and positive reviews for people to be convinced before they part with their money. There are many dating sites out there right now and it takes only minutes to setup your profile but the real essence of online dating is the communication (which is highly personal) that takes place between the members of the site.
