Dr. Dato’s Brief:
Here is an interesting idea for a date.
The post suggests that you take your date to a garage sale with the sole purpose of buying inexpensive toys that you can donate to the local kids charity like “Toys for Tots”. The idea of the date is to create a “feel good’ mood.
My thoughts, although these kind of dates sounds like fun it can backfire, particularly if this is your first or second date and depends who would be driving this ie. the woman or the man. I can see some alarm bells going off in a man’s head as to suggest that a woman should take such a bold a step as making this kind of recommendation.
Any creative date of this nature will need to be thought of before hand and discussed with the each other to gauge the comfort level or discomfort level of doing any kind of activity. I am pretty sure that even when during the first date, there is almost always a debate and discussion of where to go on the first date even if its something like the movie, coffee, dinner etc.
I would get to know the person in advance before being creative in the dating activity and also recommend that women wait for the men to come up with the dates without sounding too sexist.

Dr. Dato’s Brief:
Here is a cynical view of someone who is not sure of the effectiveness of online dating.
I fail to see the argument how online daters go to many of the online dating sites because they are rejected by potential suitors in the real world. Considering the growth that online dating companies have witnessed in the last few years with no end in site, it simply means that it is one of the most effective platform people are turning toward to find their potential partners.
There have been many success stories of couples meeting online and the stigma once associated with online dating is now gone. Statistics have shown that today one in five couples here in US now meet through online.
I agree with the writers opinion that offline methods such as family, friend networks can open up the channel further to increase the chances of finding potential mates but online cannot be ignored because you will very likely have missed opportunities there. The trick to online dating is to open up yourself to the world of dating not just through online dating sites, but through forum, blogs, facebook and other areas of interest. A popular site for cyber-dating is through meetup.com.

Essential Valentines Day reading with your horoscope expert Yvonne Yang (YY)
Monday, February 14th, 2011
Romance is in the air….yes it’s Valentine’s Day! If you are invoking the powers of Cupid, trying to clinch that relationship, hoping for a successful outcome, I wish you all the very, very best and may your dreams come true!
Alas, Chinese Valentine’s Day is not till August (last year it was 16thAugust) so I have nothing to write on that front, however, the stars for next week augurs well for everyone.
A quick scan of the week ahead if you are celebrating Valentine’s Day:
Aquarius:
don’t assume outcomes, talk to loved ones to be sure.
Pisces:
Don’t be too compliant or you may sacrifice too much and be dissatisfied.
Aries:
You may lose support of those around you if you are inflexible. Get them to help.
Taurus:
You may need to adapt to changes where a relationship is making you insecure. Gemini: Keep an open mind if you are searching for answers to big questions.
Cancer:
There are ripples on emotional issues this week, keep talking on a 1-2-1 to those concerned.
Leo:
Some uncertainty but be patient, issues may clear up by the end of the week.
Virgo:
Be careful not to be indiscreet even if you are bored. Gossip could result in bad outcomes.
Libra:
Get help if you need skills that you don’t have. You could develop those practical skills you need but ‘shout’ if you need help.
Scorpio:
Nobody likes to do more than their fair share of household chores so set up a rota. Don’t get grumpy!
Sagittarius:
You will be tempted to take risks. Don’t.
Capricorn:
Be practical. If you have helped by doing more than you should have, think again!
That is the Zodiac for the week ahead, hope you enjoy!
I recently came across a survey that was carried out on the public to find out what their idea of the ‘10 Commandments’(as in the Bible) were for this century.
Apparently the 1st commandment is ‘To treat others as you would have them treat you.’
2nd commandments have not changed which are: Thou shall not steal, Thou shall not kill.
There is another one that tells you ‘to look after those who are less fortunate than you’ but the most surprising of all was the one that tells you ‘to look after the environment!’ That is a great one! I really like that!!
The last one was to decree that ‘everyone should look after their family, their children, their extended family and themselves.’
So if you are intending to tie the knot or are starting a family or looking for a soul mate, I hope what I have shared with you will become useful.
Well that’s all folks, until next time.
May all your Valentine wishes come true!
YY

Dr. Dato’s Brief:
This post proves how articles or press releases should NOT be written. Firstly the title refers to SA which upon further reading is supposed to read South Africa, I wander how many people would have guessed that. Secondly it repeats the same information in two paragraphs.
Here is my summary;
Joburgdating.com, a South African dating website, has been experiencing a surge of growth for its online service and this has been happening across South Africa’s internet dating industry which has been seeing growth from year to year. The primary reason according to Telecom Trands in Africa is due to an increase in the internet user population of 6 million with about 550k of these users having visited a dating site according to Comscore and Hitwise.
JoburgDating is introducing new features to their website by launching a brand new site in time for Valentine 2011 which sees a surge of internet dating traffic before and after Valentines Day.

Dr. Dato’s Brief:
This is a very interesting post that discusses the old question of whether the power of uncertainty makes one appear more attractive.
A study was conducted at the University of Virginia where a selection of females having their own facebook profiles were shown facebook profiles of men. They were told that a proportion of these men found their profiles more attractive and another portion, not so attractive and a third group of men who were undecided. The women were then told to examine these groups of men and their behavior and responses while browsing the men were noted.
The results showed that women naturally preferred men who liked them but they were more attracted to the men who were undecided. The results clearly showed from the test that women found the mystery men more appealing. The scientist call this the “pleasure of uncertainty”.
My conclusion: this is not surprising because men by instinctively makes their initial intentions unclear when they like a woman which usually heightens the woman’s interest. By coming out too strong or too feeble creates a certain perception in women and it may be down to the biological wiring of women and how they pick their chosen mates.

women can find uninterested men as attractive
