Dr. Dato’s Brief:
The is a press release of a new dating site which has been around seven months called MyLiveDate.com. Although, I do not do many reports on press releases but if something is useful to the reader, I will let them know.
The concept of the MyLiveDate site is nothing new which is to get members having a face to face communication through their online web cams. The technology has been around for a while and some dating companies have tried to make use of it but the sad truth of it is that it just didn’t catch on as most dating companies found out and we are talking about 5-10 years ago.
However, now that every laptop, smartphone etc do come with their built in camera this scenario may change. There is no convincing required on anyones part to appreciate the value of a face to face chat as compared to an impersonal email or IM chat. Lets see how many online dating companies start taking an interest.

Dr. Dato’s Brief:
This is a detailed post and highlights some of the important trends in the online dating industry. It’s probably the reason why huffingtonpost.com caught the eyes of AOL who eventually purchased them.
Several points have been made, but since I keep my post short and concise, I will only list a few of the very relevant points.
The worldwide dating industry is estimated to be worth $4 billion a year with a handful of the top sites occupying a bulk of the space ie. match.com and eharmony which pulls in hundreds of millions of dollars each year. The writer has pointed out that there hasn’t been any significant changes in these sites in the last four years to keep abreast of the ever changing pace of technology and users needs. It’s possible that the same business model has been working well for these sites.
However, there have been new players on the market who have utilized facebook very well like zoosk to become a strong player in the market. The thinking is that as more people become more accustomed to the foray of new technology such as the smartphones, ipad there needs to be a new mindset with regards to ‘dating’. The old ways of dating may change completely.
A relevant point mentioned for newcomers to the online dating industry is the cost of starting a website and getting the acquired member base on the site. This could potentially rule out many of the new-comers and only allow a handful of dating sites to succeed.

This website is worth exploring as this article indicates and we will be conducting a review of this site shortly, so keep watching our section on Free Dating Site Reviews.
The concept behind GroupeeLove seems to address the growing proliferation of niche market sites such as dating sites that appeal to music lovers, cats and even gadgets. A review of those sites can be found in our section on Startup Online Dating Sites.
The way the site works is that it empowers users to create their own group and is best explained by an example. Lets say you lived in New York and you loved cats, you could create a group called ‘Must Love Cats, NYC’ and advertise this group on the site to draw attention from people with the same interest. In this way you can have all kinds of groups which people will be drawn to and have some common ground of conversation and possibly develop a relationship.
Although the idea is novel, time will tell if it has a wider appeal.

Dr. Dato’s Brief:
The post highlights the importance of maintaining a profile that is free from grammatical and typo mistakes. In online dating, the first impressions are created by what is written on the profile apart from the photo of course. If the information presented here does not read well then it may fail to impress the reader and they will simply move on.
In my opinion, it is a good idea to look over your dating profile and ask yourself whether someone who read your profile will be impressed by it. Get your friend, family to go over it and ask them for feedback and suggestions. It’s amazing how often we can find mistakes just by going over the written material a few times.
I have seen dreadful use of unstructured sentences, capitalization, pronunciation that makes the profile look like it was written by a young child and this can come across very negatively when read by other users.
To increase your chances of finding that ideal partner, you do not want to overlook this important topic. It is often the case where I have met people who are extremely articulate verbally but their written language is poor and since in online dating the first impressions are created from the written material, it needs to be done right.
