Ignighter.com has had some of a checkered history here in USA since its birth in 2008 by the three Jewish founders Daniel Osit, Adam Sachs and Kevin Owocki. All three wanted to create a ‘group’ type dating site and worked hard at acquiring members but they didn’t see the traction they wanted in the USA but overseas the website particularly in India is doing very well.
The site in India is now ranked 2,779 according Alex traffic report but has a dismally low traffic level in the USA. However, according to the NY times reporting on this article, the co-founders have now shifted their marketing focus to India and have already acquired additional angel funding to the tune of $3 million. They will be setting up offices in India and try to get a footing in the dating culture of India which is very different to that of the West. See our additional review of the dating scene in India.

This is an interesting idea for a dating site that has been started by would-be MIT student entrepreneurs Jason Gao and Tim Hsieh.
The site called nChooseTwo was developed to invite mutual friends to match others romantically and works by going to their website and entering potential matches into the system. The recipient will receive a message saying “A friend just suggested a new match for you! To view this match, visit https://www.nchoosetwo.com.” Once on the site, the potential match can see who his/her match is and have the option to accept or decline the match. There are other features to the site such as ‘crushes’.
The concept is somewhat similar to some of the dating sites that we have reviewed ie. GreenLightCard.com where the person who has the crush hands the recipient a card containing information on how to contact the admirer.
I am not sure how this will pan out, but I think the idea is novel but it will require an inkling of effort from a mutual friend which can be hard especially in the area of love which is fairly personal to most people.

The posts appearing in ADI News on the subject of online dating tends to be very short but in this case it is surprisingly longer than a couple of paragraphs and hence my Article Rating of 3.0. However, keep in mind that the Article Rating is also a measure of the quality of the content of the post and just merely its length.

Ok, down to the original topic of conversation…
Essentially the post talks about the future online dating and in particular group dating as noted in the title. In case you were wandering how this works, its a new theme of online dating and works in that you join or setup groups and other people recommend you into that group. It’s supposed to give a sense of safety to people who want to date and we took a brief look at this type of dating in our blog posting of GroupeeLove.
Smart mobile apps. are mentioned to allow users to connect with other people very rapidly and on the go. I personally feel that this area of market will grow in the next few years. A social type dating website that is becoming prominent is SocialConnect which is a facebook app that allows users to form groups.
Where group dating has become somewhat popular in other countries such as Japan, it is not yet known how this kind of dating will do in the US market.

The topic covered here is summary of interviews conducted by Karen Burkett with some online dating industry executives on the subject of love and how it relates to the industry. It is a brief account of some questions directed towards industry attendants of the iDate 2011.
To summarize the message, the meetings and conferences held at the dating conferences every year are to bring the online dating ‘business’ together into one place for further exchange of ideas, business, partnerships and more. Some of the people come to attract investors, others to provide services and many to deliver their knowledge of this industry.
I liked the catchy line used to describe this industry ‘there ain’t no romance, without finance’.

This a post on some real life experiences of people who tried online dating, some with success and others without.
One elderly couple met through match and they found each other when their memberships were about to expire. Vito had put up a snippet of the last book he had read Life of Padre Pio and Denise found him while doing a search. “I noticed that something was different about his profile when mentioned the book, so I thought I would explore”. The two are now happily engaged.
Mary from Stony Brook was unfortunate in here experiences. The men she had met online didn’t seem at all compatible from their profiles online. She doesn’t yet know when she will go back to online dating.
Lewis of Setauket found it surprising that he ended up dating a girl that typically he would not have chosen had he met her offline.
Another dater Laura of Stony Brook tried the online dating and is currently dating someone she met online. She often tells people how they met and she said “About a third of people are surprised, a third are worried and a third say ‘that’s how people meet now”.
