If you are unable to pay say it openly and honestly as this will strike a chord with the other person and you may find that person more forgiving and likes you even more for your open honesty.
It is unfortunate that some people do want to take advantage of every opportunity that arises and as a result some people equally harden their ways to cater to manipulating opportunists that come in their way.
Trust and loyalty take a back seat and we are left in a world defending our own turf and appearing equally distrustful in the process.
If you are going out to a restaurant that you cannot afford, you should ideally make it clear that you don’t have the means to pay rather than wait later and this applies to any other venture where money is involved.
As a rule of thumb, in my personal opinion, the man should always insist on paying for the woman. This removes any kind of mistrust and makes the man feel he is the provider and carer which are in accordance with our thinking and behavior for thousands of years.
