(1) Honesty and truth principle
Women understand that it’s important to be honest and truthful in a relationship, if she has any interest in the longevity of the relationship which in most cases they are.
In this case, you have the added advantage to find out from her past experiences and try and formulate a real character assessment of her.
Some woman, do not like to disclose something in the past and will signal an emotional appeal for truce.
This is also a manipulative gesture on their part and they will use it to skip the subject or try and get your attention to some other thing.
In all likelihood this comes from growing up as a child and understanding the power of emotional tantrums to draw attention.
Some women will continue to use this to garner attention and can also do so intentionally.
Of course having expectations of honesty from the other side implies the same behavior and characteristics from your end.
Do not expect that honesty and transparency should only come from the woman.

(2) Checking for signs
There are discrete signs as mentioned in the book by Sex-ploytation by Mat Fitzgerald who is also a contributor to AskMen.
When you are in a relationship there are ways to determine the manipulative type by checking yourself before committing to a relationship.
If you don’t read your inner ‘red alert’ signals that come to you during a conversation, you may find yourself in a mince before you even know it.
Firstly, you have to remember that a partnership requires a 50/50 contribution from each other and you should use this as a barometer for all successful relationships.
If you are not getting as much as you give, then the relationship is likely to be skewed in one way.
Of course this dose not imply a tit for tat behavior, it’s just a measure of how much effort you are making as opposed to the other person.
If you find yourself into a relationship of 3 months and you are doing all the chasing, then something is clearly wrong.
To an observer outside this seems obvious, but it is actually quite hard when you are in a relationship and your head is spinning with all kinds of emotions.

If you are finding that you are doing all the chasing, you could be in a relationship where the woman is playing a mind game with you.
However, the situation can also arise not from mind games but from the woman’s real intention of controlling the situation.
This can be the case where the woman is actually so much into you but she is too afraid of ‘letting go’ in case the outcome did not work to her advantage.
This comes about from insecurity in the woman but can have disastrous consequences to the relationship.
The signals to watch for include..
(a) a feeling that you are always being tested
(b) a barrage of negative criticisms
(c) a feeling of being inadequate with the other person
(d) sudden shifts in emotions from the other side
The whole situation is exacerbated if the man takes this sitting down without confronting the issues.
The same would apply for women too.
In actual fact, if you develop strong feelings for that person and you have a sense of insecurity yourself, you are more likely to give in to these issues.
This can only make the situation worse while a resolution seems unclear and you continue to battle with your inner feelings.

Part of our psychological make up allows us to use the power of the mind to create and play fantasies within our heads with so much clarity and realism that we can almost attain a feeling of euphoria.
This perhaps could be the cause of most our troubled relationships that we witness all around us.
Men have a tendency to go for something almost unattainable, their interest in women appears to be quite superficial ie. looks, body shape etc.
Romanticism and love seems to be some kind of a godly experience that is not part of the mind set used in their common daily activities.
Hence when a man sees something of beauty, they can feel a shift in their state of mind that touches on their fantasy.
When this happens the feeling of uncontrollable tension and emotion brings with it an escape into another world that can be irresistible.
It is possibly this state of mind that everyone ultimately strives for and probably the reasons for all the intake of drugs and intoxication.
