How to be liked through examples – 12 key pointers - part 14

It turned out that the person had felt that I had left the bathroom in unclean state.

I had known the person to be very picky about the bathroom situation and had taken more trouble in cleaning it than usual.

It felt surprising to me that they had still found the bathroom unclean.

Following a few minutes of heated anger and exchanges, we eventually came to an agreement of how we should go about the preventing this issue again.

Here we had a typical case of two parties where their views of what is ‘clean’ is naturally different and thus sparked off some animosity amongst each other.

It takes individuals to be tolerant, self-disciplined and to communicate effectively in order to get along with other people.

Be prepared for people’s shortcomings in people and don’t try to be too judgmental (point 8) and try to empathize with them and address any problems that appear to be troubling you.

To get along and like people are far more rewarding to ones life than holding resentment or grudges with them since it can drain a lot of positive energy in you.

(f) Take care of yourself and others will start to appreciate you more

By paying attention to the details of hygiene, grooming, appearance and clothes you can instill a renewed sense of confidence in yourself and come across as more appealing in other people’s eyes.

With that you may receive compliments (point 9), and in turn you will complement others appropriately and thus build self-confidence and a more positive outlook in life (point 1).

(g) Be modest and more people will like you

We have all come across arrogant people who love talking about themselves and feel the necessity to burden people with their accomplishments, escapades etc and usually have little interest in other peoples affairs.

Such people are just not likeable, and many people would rather avoid them altogether.

It is arguable if they ever come to understand their personality flaw that usually puts off people rather than bring genuine closeness with other people.

Usually they will attract the very introverted type who themselves are insecure and have no real sense of value.

These conditions cannot exist for too long and the introverted personality may eventually ‘wake up’ and feel necessary to ‘be heard’ and thus speak out and consequently end the relationship.

Of course there is every right to speak of ones accomplishments, if it’s in the right context and of some value to the other party.

However, listening skills (point 6) are of paramount importance for creating a likeable personality and one that also draws respect from others.

(h) Truth is the best policy

It is difficult to imagine other people to be honest with you when you are not honest yourself.

This always creates an air of distrust and one cannot make meaningful relationships with anyone.

To be liked requires one to be honest (point 12)with everyone as people will only confide and talk in confidence if they feel that person can be trusted.

You maybe surprised to find how people will engage with you more when they see this kind of transparency as it then allows the individuals to touch on deeper and meaningful topics.

Book Review – Dan Albright – Chicks - A User’s Guide…

I have recently been on the hunt for good material on the subject of dating and relationships since I have been actively promoting my Jumpdates.com blog.

There are literally hundreds of books written on this subject and not to mention that Hollywood has a specific category for this called “chick-flicks”.

The subject matter has always been very interesting to all of us because there is no ‘magic’ formula when it comes to love and relationships.

It really drives the point home that all of us are unique ‘individuals’ and as a result the interaction with any other human being will also be unique.
