Online Dating Hurting Real Love?

Ever since the online dating sites came in to existence there has been much hype for singles resorting to dating sites. There is a distinct section of our society that think that is a last option and few also think that singles who are regular visitors to online dating website fulfill their lust and desires with multiple choices of partners that are easily available. According to those views it’s like a game of darts where you throw at plenty of singles and then eventually at least one will hit the bull’s eye.

Online Dating Hurting Real Love

Online Dating websites are a secure world for the singles that are looking for companionship. Loneliness leads to depression and possibly a nervous breakdown. The online dating sites come to the rescue for most people who are searching for companionship for various relationships. Some look for friendship, some for emailing or long-term relationships or even marriages.

With registered users from all over the world and a simple registration process, online dating web sites are the most convenient options to find the person to build a relationship. With busy work schedules, one really does not have the time to go to singles bars and look for a date or soul mate. Online dating websites make it possible to keep loneliness at bay as one can find a date/mate from the comfort of your own home or office. For most people online dating websites assist one to find long lasting relationships and true love.

Well the fact is it depends on individuals and how they view online dating. It’s childish to say that online dating is actually hampering the feeling of so called love. People used to cheat when there were no online dating sites so blindly blaming dating sites as the cause of many relationship issues is all hearsay.

Dr Datos take on the Facebook Graph for online daters?

There was a recent article on Mashable on how Facebook Graph could disrupt the future of online dating. Facebook Online Dating

The article in mashable is interesting as it could have potential implications to all the dating sites currently out there. Match.com could potentially have a run for its money, if FB did have its ways. However, the flat figures for the online dating industry in the recent years compared to the rosey years of a few years back may suggest a different approach is needed and FB has the answers. Whatever FB has in mind could seriously affect the way the online industry operates and could be advantageous or disadvantageous depending on how one looks at it.

The online dating industry exploded onto the scene over 10 years ago and has been growing ever since. At that time, the stigma associated with the business of online dating was relegated to geeks, losers or men wearing anoraks. However, today it has a much more social acceptance and figures of one in five marriages occur online are routinely circulated in the news. Could FB fill the remaining gap that is still holding back four fifths of the online singles population? It would be a significant change indeed for FB and something they would need to seriously consider. Maybe they want to become the next Yahoo in the online world but they want to do this in the social world they have created all by themselves. Could they be making the same mistake as Yahoo and leave a competitor like Google to come into it’s wake and disrupt the social business altogether? We just have to wait and see.

What is happening for sure, is that the world of online has changed from what it was a few years back, its much more user centric, dynamic, behaviorally driven and extremely fluid. A mistake could leave you in the dust like Zynga which has had a string of stings (no pun intended) since it floated. The lifetime of a new online company may be very short indeed. In my opinion, we will be witness to the fastest round of instant millionaires as well as the quickest path to riches and rags.

The Low Down on Mingle2.com - Free Dating Platform Review - Part 4

One of the features that I liked about mingle2 is their mutual match system. Here, you are able to use the system only if you have a photo of yourself uploaded. Your photo will appear against potential dates next to you and your job is to say based on the picture and their profile description which is well below the page whether you approve Yes, No or Maybe. I found there were a good number of profiles presented here and I could go on for a good few minutes on this. What is interesting though about this section is what is Mingle2 doing with all this information in the background? I think Mingle2 takes this information and sends likely candidates that I have selected as ‘Yes’ and notify them of my interest. This is an excellent way to get users coming back to the site. After all, what can be better than bringing folks back to your site to create all those banner impressions and clicks that keeps your daily bread on the table.

In summary, I joined the mingle2 site and wanted to give you my first take. Hopefully, I will be able to tell you how it fares over the test of time which is the real acid test, right?

Here is my score on the mingle2.com site so far.

Registration - Easy but tricky to avoid the service paying tactics - 3 out of 5

Ease of use - Good once you are in - 4 out of 5

How effective - Need more time to check out the ladies on this site, then I will be able to tell you. However, judging by the local pool of users, it seems to have some potential. Check back for more info. but tell me some of your stories.

The Low Down on Mingle2.com - Free Dating Platform Review - Part 3

Finally, I ended up on the actual members page, the holy grail of the online dating stage where everything happens. In my inbox, there were two unread messages and one of them was as expected and was a note offering me to upgrade my account for a price, of course. The other mail, which was a more useful one went into great details about how to get the most out of this site. The premium upgrade option page made it very clear that they were a free dating site and would never charge you without your consent, which was good to know. Their upgrades were for 3, 6 and 12 months and depending on which plan you take you could save a few dollars here and there. On average their monthly comes to about $8.

The problem I feel that upgrade options have in free dating sites is how to convince the users that they need to upgrade since the features to find their mates are already free. So how do you go about convincing users that their hard earned money will pay off in the form of more dates, more contacts and more fun! It’s a tall order but I think its possible, otherwise mingle2.com or pof.com would not be doing it still.

The Low Down on Mingle2.com - Free Dating Platform Review - Part 2

I am pretty certain this was the clinger that judging by the previous text messages hooks people into replying and forking out their first $10 for the month. Good luck to you, if you did so and especially trying to remove your subscription for the subsequent months.

I received a welcome message which was earlier in the registration process, so that was reassuring. However, based on what was presented to me, I had to be doubly alert to any other kind of ‘money making’ games that was to follow. To no surprise I was met with the same where on the next screen a page presented me with several screen-shots of apps. This reminded me of the apps that you can pick up on your Roku media streaming player. The page again was confusing and it led me to believe that I needed to install one of these apps in order to proceed. I then submitted to my better judgement and decided to proceed through another link I found on the page and voila I was taken to the next screen! I bypassed an ugly step where I could have installed one of these toolbars and apps on my browser that would have surely compromised my privacy.
