Storyline

Story of the flick starts with Krishna (played by Vidya Balan) convincing her hubby Vidyadhar, who is a local gang-leader to surrender to police. He pretends to agree, but dramatically dies in a gas explosion. Now Krishna is living a life of a widow, then enters in the movie a team of two criminals Iftikhar aka Khalujan (played by Naseeruddin Shah) and Razzak Hussain aka Babban (played by Arshad Warsi). Both of them ditch their job and try to escape from their boss who wants to catch them and bury them alive.

The duo land up in Vidyadhar’s house to seek refuge from there, the boss comes to learn that Vidyadhar is dead, Krishna gives them shelter and starts seducing both of them and pretends to be in love with both of them to achieve her secret goal. Khalujan and Babban also fall to her trap, but don’t express their feelings either to Krishna or each other. The intimate scene between Vidya Balan and Arshad Warsi made a lot of controversies before the release. Krishna proposes both of them to kidnap Kamalkant Kakkar aka KK, partner of Vidyadhar in his illegal job. Story takes an interesting twist and turn when all of them come to know that Vidyadhar is still alive.

Last one hour of the movie is full of drama. Babban and Khalujan were blindfolded by the Vidyadhar’s men and taken to get killed, they manage to escape from there, and this fight sequence is ordinary and reminds us of the 90’s era. Finally, Vidyadhar gets killed and the trio has the last laugh.

Final Thoughts

Ishqiya is one time watch movie and does not have enough fire power to attract the audience for a second showing. It has an average story and except for some of the scene are very funny and has some vulgar dialogs. Highlight of the movie is Vidya Balan and her abusive dialogs which she does with ease and perfection. Naseeruddin Shah was fantastic as Khalujan and so did Arshan Warsi. Director Abhishek Chaubey did a fantastic job and made a fantastic first movie as debutant. Lyricist Gulzar good song and “Dil to Baccha Hai ji” and “Ibn-E-Batuta” were both chart toppers for months.

Rating

Ishqiya scores 6 out of 10 for its dialogs and Vidya Balan’s performance that many leading actress would not think of doing onscreen. Songs written by Gulzar and sung by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan gave it extra mileage.

The Rise of Superstar Nargis with Shree 420 - Directed by Raj Kapoor

Movie: Shree 420 (Mr. Cheat)
Director: Raj Kapoor
Year: 1955
Stars: Raj Kapoor, Nargis, Nadira, Nemo and Lalita Pawar

Snapshot of the Story

Raj Kapoor was the biggest and probably the first big show man of Indian cinema. He tried his luck in acting, direction and as producer. He was the man with special charisma that increased as his career grew.
Shree 420 was the super hit movie of the 50’s era with towering performances from Raj Kapoor and Nargis. Shree 420 is known for its classical romance and unforgettable romantic scenes in the rain where Raj Kapoor and Nargis share the same umbrella that gave it an exquisite feel. Raj Kapoor was the master in his art and was amongst the very few who knew what audience wanted and whatever he did created magic on the silver screen.

Raj Kapoor's Charisma in Shree 420

Raj Kapoor's Charisma in Shree 420

Storyline

The story of Shree 420 is of Raj (played by Raj Kapoor) a humble guy coming from a small town to the city of dreams in Bombay in search of a job. Shree 420 beautifully portrays how difficult is to survive in Bombay at that time and how Raj finds his way and does not hesitate to choose the right path when realized that he is in the wrong company.

Raj is full of enthusiasm, self belief and has an innocent charm about him. But he takes no time to learn that living in Bombay he needs to be a sharp and cunning man. Bombay is the place he finds his true love. Vidya (Nargis) is a poor girl and takes care of her parents by earning her bread and butter as a school teacher.

Struggling to find a decent job for himself, Raj meets a businessman Sonchand (Nemo) and gets attracted by his luxurious lifestyle. Raj starts to believe that he also can become rich, but he is not aware about the Sonchand’s evil intentions. On the other hand, Sonchand offers Raj to work on his new project. Sonchand is working on the project where we would be building homes for poor people available at very cheap rates. Raj soon finds himself as a victim of dirty tricks by Sonchand and there are no real intentions by Sonchand who only wants to make money and run away with it. Raj feels sorry for what he did and goes to those poor people and hands over the bond papers to them preventing them from becoming homeless.

When the story is revolving around the intense drama it also has the romantic angle to it as Raj and Vidya fall in love with each other, Nargis played the role of Vidya and looked stunning. Her femininity, expressions and her innocence only shouts the fact that she is born to act and with release of “Shree 420” Indian cinema has witnessed the birth of new superstar in the form of Nargis.

Sharkar-Jaikishan's romantic music

Sharkar-Jaikishan's romantic music

Final Thoughts

“Shree 420” did turn out to be the super hit movie with a simple story and towering performances of Raj Kapoor who looked very much a small town guy and has that innocent charm about him. Nargis was excellent and her beauty and eyes did much coupled with her dialogs. Shree 420 is directed by non other than Raj Kapoor himself, which is quite an achievement to be in the shoes of both an actor and director. Raj Kapoor was the only other actor in the Indian cinema and probably in the world who played this dual role in his career. Legendary Shankar – Jaikishan created the vibrant and romantic music of the decade and the song “Pyaar Hua Iqraar Hua” still fresh in everyone’s memory and “Mera Joota hai Japani ye Patlun englistani Sar pe lal topi rusi par phir bhi dil hai Hindustani” became a trade mark of the movie aka “Wearing torn Japanese shoes, English trousers, a red Russian cap but with an Indian heart”

This is Where it Ends Baby !!

High octane couple Russell Brand and Katy Perry finally called it off. Personally I am not surprised but for many of you who are surprised by this news need to know that for all this while Russell was in the process of recovery from his addictive state, it was all falling heavily on Katy the one person in his “life”. Thereafter, before she could do anything about it, the emotional stress lead to a negative chain reaction. Slowly cracks in the relationship started appearing one after the other which was affecting the non-personal areas of the couple. Well, no wonder they didn’t last. What kind of a persona can live up to that?

Russell Brand and Katy Perry Called It Off

Russell Brand and Katy Perry Called It Off

What is very heart-touching is that theirs was a marriage which happened as per traditional Hindu ceremony, at a place near to “Ranthambhore tiger sanctuary” in Rajasthan western India, the same location where Brand proposed Katy. Now, as per popular opinion getting married in a very traditional and anti-divorce country like India should have given the couple a better “marriage mileage” at least a lot more than other Hollywood celebrities.

On the contrary for Russell it was pure psychology that rode above cultural and ritualistic sentiments, no wonder Brand succumbed to the ways of the heart which he did what had to be done. So Brand filed for divorce from Katy in Los Angeles, citing irreconcilable differences.

As for Katy her religious roots and cultural sentiments did matter, at least to the extent it did not allow her to initiate the divorce proceedings, due to her evangelical Christian background and her family’s belief that divorce is wrong, so our man Russell rose to the occasion and detonated the time bomb called divorce .

Detonation is a triggered event so what are those trigger points which can blow up a marriage is what evolutionary psychologist and pundits of “Darwin theory” are still trying to figure out.

“Divorce trigger point management” or in short DTPM is what Modern Society should be learning and improving upon because in human couples separation of the pair is true but is not normally desired so it is not valid. Therefore it needs to be legally sanctioned, but in animals it is both true and valid since it is sanctioned by the “laws of natural selection”.

All I can say is that I wish Charles Darwin was alive today and guess where his office would be….of course it would be in the Divorce Capital of the world …still guessing ..it is Hollywood of course!

It’s Love-all.. score for David Beckham and Victoria Adams!!

Whoever said “Football is like a fertility carnival Eleven sperm trying to get into the egg, so I feel sorry for the goalkeeper” has a wrong perception about the goal keeper in a man’s life .

So what is it with football and marriage, one did say both involve balls …well jokes apart but on a serious note there is more to what happens off the field than what happens on the field and the one football player who bends it right is David Beckham who finally scored a perfect goal with his beloved goalkeeper and ‘to be wife’ Victoria and the score is only growing with the passing of time.

Love Live of David Beckham and Victory Adams

Love Live of David Beckham and Victory Adams

The couple started dating in 1997 by initiating low-profile dates – going out, casual shopping, dining out etc, until one day David knelt on one knee and proposed to Victoria. One interesting piece of their pre-nuptial event is that the couple preferred not to cut their engagement cake but, Instead they donated the cake to a charity event for a Community Primary School in Cheshire. The cake was “a replica of the foyer with Victoria sitting at the top and David sitting behind her .

So finally the day America celebrates it’s independence day was the very day in 1999 the couple got married at the 560-acre estate of the 1794, gothic Luttrellstown Castle. But this time their wedding cake which was topped with a nude sculpture of the newlyweds was indeed cut and distributed among the guests and speaking of guests. their wedding invitees included David and Debbie Seamon, the Spice Girls, and Sir Bobby Charlton who were one of the 230 or so invitees in the list.

If there is any couple who swears by tattoos then it ought to be David and Victoria, I mean the tattoos are so much reflective of their marriage and family life. So when asked about his tattoos Beckam says “Mine are all about the people in my life, my wife and sons, whom I want to have with me always. When you see me, you see the tattoos. You see an expression of how I feel about Victoria and the boys. They’re part of me.”-Source: Beckham: Both Feet on the Ground, page 284.

Thus parenthood also seems to be smooth sailing for the couple as for Victoria a mother of 4 this what she had to say “I know I would sacrifice anything for my boys (David and sons), including my career, even though I also know that they would never ask me to.” Source: Victoria Beckham. Learning to Fly: The Autobiography. 2005. pg. 516.

One wonders if this is a fairytale of two people falling in love and raising a family and more importantly staying together irrespective of the circumstances which life has in store. Now my point is if they can do it ..then why don’t other celebrity couples live life like them … can any body bend it like Beckham…!

    Storyline

Raj Sharma (played by Ranbir Kapoor) is a flirt and womanizer who loves to play with women’s feelings and then dumps them thinking he has enough out of the affair. Story goes through his different affairs starting in Europe where he meets Mahi (Minissha Lamba). She believes in true love, Raj impresses her with his poems he has written about his feelings for her and then shares a kiss. But Mahi soon comes to know that Raj is playing games with her.

Now Raj moves to Mumbai and there he gets the job as a game designer in Microsoft. In Mumbai Raj meets Radhika (Bipasha Basu), Raj forms the live-in relationship and keeps promising to get married. Raj gets an offer to move to Sydney for designing a new game and he accepts the proposal thinking that Radhika (Bipasha Basu) is a modern girl who won’t mind a breakup. But it was opposite of Raj’s expectation as Radhika (Bipasha Basu) becomes ready to sacrifice her career and move to Australia with him. Raj tries hard to avoid her, but she disagrees. Raj plays a dirty trick with Radhika (Bipasha Basu) and promise her for marriage and asks her to wait at marriage registrars office on given date, but he never turns up.

In Sydney Raj meets Gayatri (Deepika Padukone), she is a student in a business school and drives a taxi in the night. Gayatri (Deepika Padukone) is an intelligent and independent girl who doesn’t believe in commitment. Raj befriends her and finds himself in love with her. On expressing his feelings he gets rejected by Gayatri (Deepika Padukone) and learns how it feels when someone hurts you. He decides to apologize to both Mahi and Radhika and flies back to India. In the meantime, Gayatri also realizes her love for him and comes to miss him a lot. On returning from India Raj founds his house full of Gayatri’s love letters and spends no time to meet her.

    Final Thoughts

The Story of Bachna Ae Haseeno revolves around Raj and his flamboyance. Romance of Minisha Lamba and Ranbir Kapoor was the best of all as they both looked good onscreen. Sadly the story is quite monotonous and after the first affair it becomes predictable. Director Siddharth Anand tried his best but could not make it a hit mainly due to the weak storyline. Vishal – Shekar created the versatile music by creating the retro version of 70’s “Bachna Ae Haseeno” by Rishi Kapoor.
