To post to a board, make sure that you are in the right area of the forum board section.

Your previous browsing of the entire board will tell you where to post and to which categories.

Plan what you intend to say and do this outside of the board in notepad or other editing tools.

Save this file to your local hard drive so you have it for future reference. Once you have perused and edited your post you are now ready to post to the board.

Boards will behave different according to any links or images you have in your post. It’s wise to find out beforehand so you don’t run into problems with a real post.

It’s also recommended that you post something on a lighter topic just to see how the system works.

When you have submitted a post, make a quick reference on the top of your edited note of where you made the posting and what date.

This will help you refresh your memory when you come to refer back to it.

Some posts may require approval or moderation before it gets published to the board, in which case you may need to wait a day or two before you see it appear on the board.

Once the post is published, you can check back time to time to see what the responses are. If you have an email alert setup for the board you may also get an automatic email alert when a response is made to your post.

When replying to respondents of your post it is good to follow good etiquette and not get fired up if you feel the response is weak or not relevant.

Most people are responding on the fly and they may not have the right answer to the post.

Give it time and others will respond to your post and continue the thread of discussion.

When you need to make a response do so cordially and thanking the respondent with the information they have provided.

Generally it’s a good idea to provide complete information as possible if the respondent is asking for more information.

Remember what you may take for granted may not necessarily be the case with your respondents, so be explicit in your description of the issue, question etc but try to summarize it so it’s understandable by someone of reasonable intelligence.
