Dr. Dato’s Brief:
This is a very useful documentation which talks about the pitfalls of paid dating sites and the increase in complaints received by users regarding many of the issues related to such sites. Some of them being the following;
- dissatisfaction with the quantity of date matches, incompatibility with resulting matches
- high pressure sales tactics used by sales representatives
- complaints alleging automatic renewal of dating service contracts and the inability to cancel
The post also recommends to look up the dating service provider through the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and check company’s information. I did a search for eharmony and match and there were some interesting statistics on the ongoing complaints received by users.

BBB is a very useful resource to find out about a company regarding user complaints

Dr. Dato’s Brief:
Here the article points to the real dangers of meeting someone for the first time on a date and a woman becoming a victim of sexual assault. In truth, the incident could very well happen if the two had met outside of dating for example in a club, restaurant or any other public place.
There are several steps one should take to ensure the safety of the individual whenever you go out for a date with a stranger for the first time. I will go further and add the following;
- Meet in a public place
- Tell someone or friend you can trust where you are going and ask them to call you later in the evening
- Follow your instincts (these are primeval forces in all of us that has protected men and women through the ages)
- Do not give out any of your personal information
- Before you go out on any dates, find out as much as you can about the person, talk to them on the phone

Dr. Dato’s Brief:
Here is an interesting post on the subject of computers and gadgets which are consuming more and more peoples time and using these as communication devices to contact other people. The effect of this as the MIT Professor Sherry Turkle points out is that it is making us all “Less Human”.
Her argument is that we are building relationships with computers and technology and the more dependent we become on technology the less human we become.
I have actually reported this in my article “Why communication is more important to us than it has ever been” where the effects of technology may impair our lifestyles to communicate effectively with other humans. The long-term repercussions of placing technology between humans could potentially have dire consequences to mankind’s evolution and something we cannot ignore.
I will review more of Sherry Turkle’s work and provide my own account of some of the implications and importance of this subject matter to all of us humans.

Dr. Dato’s Brief:
Fernando Ardenghi blog site has an unusual angle to the dating industry world and would encourage you to check it out. The article here attempts to debunk dating methods used by dating companies over their proprietary match making technology. Although he doesn’t specially mention why he has listed them as ‘debunked’ his other blog postings does shed more light into the practices of the dating companies to acquire members through clever marketing practice.
In several articles he has gone under the hood of Plentyoffish.com which is one of the largest online free dating sites and has researched (quite well) the methods used to generate money.
In addition to debunking the myths of online dating from the prospective of the company, he does also elaborate the methods that should be employed to keep the industry healthy going forward into the coming years.

Dr. Dato’s Brief:
This post gives you advise on to how to behave and what to do when you are meeting someone for the first time through online dating.
For first-timers who are new to online dating the first date can be a bit nerve-racking and the post suggest not to look at the whole affair with too much scrutiny. This is good advise and just be yourself and enjoy the moment.
The problem is that some of us lack in confidence and we can also be insecure and the emotional thought of the upcoming event can defeat us and make us feel uncomfortable. What we need to do is build confidence and which can be done through mind conditioning as the article suggests.
The bottom line is that to have a great first date, just be yourself and try to enjoy the moment in time. Don’t try to predict the outcome of the date, you are in the company of another person and talk about things you like to talk about.

meeting someone on a date for the first time can be easy and enjoyable
