Article Subject: Canadian online dating market - Part 4

Dr. Dato’s Brief:

Part 1Part 2Part 3Part 5

Sam Moorcroft founded ChristianCafe back in 1999 to successfully match singles of the Christian Faith. He actually found later on that he had more interest and business from USA much like Markus Frind for his dating site Plentyoffish.com. From the study he did of the USA market, he discovered that up to 50% of his members were Born Again Christians.

Since then Moorcroft along with his wife, Pollyanna and his brother, Philip also started other faith based sites including RealsCafes.com and JewishCafes.com. Moorcroft has made some positive debates on the argument for paid and free dating sites as can be viewed on this blog.

It’s hard to say what ChristianCafe will get up to next, but be sure to stop by our Dating Reviews section of our blog when we will post a review of these faith-based dating sites.

Canadian online dating market - Part 5 - Online Dating Briefs by Dr. Dato

Article Subject: Canadian online dating market - Part 5

Dr. Dato’s Brief:

Part 1Part 2Part 3Part 4

It’s Just Lunch is a matchmaking dating service catering to busy professionals and relies on a franchise business model across USA and Canada.

Jacquie Brownridge heads the Canadian operation with offices in Columbia (Vancouver, Victoria, the Okanagan), and Toronto. Although not strictly an online dating site ie. having user profiles on their site, it’s more of a matchmaking service. Her recent interview in the Fanny Kiefer says a lot about how her business operates.

Clients would first get a screening from one of the matchmaking consultants to determine their needs and get an idea of their personality. The consultant would then work with the client to match other people based on their attributes and other qualities. Obviously this matchmaking is not going to be easy and will most certainly depend on a good ‘base’ of clients in their database.

The economic downturn of 2008 caused a big drop in the client base and as a result Brownridge had to reinvent her business strategy with the help of her global franchise peers and making a comeback.

What is the difference between desires and expectations in dating - Online Dating Briefs by Dr. Dato

Article Subject: What is the difference between desires and expectations in dating

Dr. Dato’s Brief:

Here is an interesting thought about desires and expectations from each of the partners during dating. I found some interesting feedback and comments from users on this website regarding this subject.

From what I could gather from the conversation, expectations are exclusively in areas of respect, courtesy, hygiene, manners and so forth, while desires are what you would expect in love or the emotional content of the relationship. Although, I am not sure if I got this completely right because the meaning of desire is to want or crave something while expectation is something that is expected as a rule.

Since relationships are highly complex, I don’t believe you can make a comparison of the two words since they have no real dependency but you could say that desire is based on one’s own internal needs which may not have been conveyed to the other person. If you have any thoughts, please feel free to write in.

The demise of MySpace - Online Dating Briefs by Dr. Dato

Article Subject: The demise of MySpace - Online Dating Briefs by Dr. Dato

Dr. Dato’s Brief:

It is worth mentioning in this post of MySpace since a while back it did serve to some degree the ‘online dating’ to the masses that were once using it with such fervor.

I remember, at that time when I was in the 4th year of operation with Jumpdates.com (2004), I had the notion of offering my dating users the ability to tailor their web pages and along came MySpace.com and completely took over the social market scene pulling in millions of users in a very short period of time.

At that time, you have to remember that the words ’social websites’ was not a common terminology used by people and MySpace simply became MySpace in much the same way as Google is called none other than Google, indirectly fulfilling a crucial part of the internet space.

Many users were buzzed by MySpace and as it gathered momentum it took over permanent positions in the tabloids of prominent newspapers.. almost every week. MySpace also gained a bit of notoriety in much the same way as Craigslist today on the subject of people hooking up through the sites. However, there wasn’t really any competition in this space that MySpace happily occupied for a good part of 4 years and it was snatched up for $580 million by Rupert Murdoch of News Corporation. Here is when the problem started arising.

In my opinion, the people who purchased it didn’t really understand how to leverage it or make money from it because for the longest time, the site remained unchanged in looks, functionality improvements were absent from the site. Of course, most of us know what happened a few years back when Facebook came onto the scene and stole the show around 2008 and the words ’social sites’ became a buzzword. Unfortunately, the changes for MySpace came too late and a revamp of it’s website wasn’t going to help them.

Today, MySpace has gone from 70 million unique users to 45 million unique users from last year which places the website in a difficult position to recover. Most analysts now predict the demise of MySpace and also a takeover bid ranging in a few millions of dollars, a far cry from the $580 million paid back in 2005.

We can actually take away a good lesson from all this and that is at the end of the day, you the end user rules and no matter what kind of product and services that may wow Wall Street, it will have little impact if it doesn’t harmonize with all of us.

Article Subject: Quick tips to spotting scam dating sites - Part 3 - Online Dating Briefs by Dr. Dato

Dr. Dato’s Brief:

Part 1, Part 2

Okay, so we have covered ground on how to spot scam websites (dating) and the tell-tale signs that these are fake websites in parts 1 and 2 of the series.

If all fails in your detection of what you think to be a scam website and you are still unsure, we have the most powerful resource available at our disposal which is of course Google.

In the example presented in this series we have targeted what is a potentially a fake website trying to lure users into buying their product and parting with their hard-earned cash.

If you examine the website, you should have a few key names that keep popping up which refers to their amazing product, in this example, it happens to be eHome Profit System. I type ‘eHome Profit System’ into Google, low and behold the first listing that appears is a review site on this system by reviewopedia.com. You click on this and you go to their page of the review and when you check users comments on this product you can be rest assured that this website is truly a fishy website.

Make sure to check out the other post on how some people get scammed through online dating websites.
