In the preceding example that I gave you of Microsoft coming out with their very first helping of the windows operating system, there could have been several ways to respond to the public. Microsoft could have just said, that they simply are not good enough to produce the product that they wanted for the market and leave it and focus on other things (which they were engaged in ie. applications, servers etc.). A competitor could have come and just taken over the market, but instead they chose to challenge it square on and they were motivated to act until they got it right.

Of course there are going to be bumps on the way, but you keep the path going, measure performance, until you get favorable responses and just keep going. Of course one can stop when they have reached their perceived pinnacle of success in their own eyes or just keep going. In the case of the online dating profile which we are discussing as the analogy here, we can rest in the phase of the online dating should we ultimately fulfill our goals.

However, this is not to say that the lessons learnt from this exercise cannot be translated to other walks of life, for example, in building a successful career.
