By shifting the onus onto the owners of the website by Bing and Yahoo will spell big trouble for them and they should change this policy. Google has no issues with my site, and do you honestly think that they will stop crawling a site because it cannot go beyond the first line of code?

Google did not get to where they are by thinking like this, they have brought tools and services that brings a benefit to the end user and they just don’t stop there. They don’t make the lives of the users or the webmasters more difficult than it already is.

Going back to what I was saying earlier, that the idea of omitting important data to end users such as the ‘date of the post’ is bad for several reasons when it comes to Google. If you think that Google is not going to pick up the date when you first registered the post, you are quite mistaken. Google bots now typically visit web sites several times a day, particularly if there is much changing content on the site. It will already have in its database the time it retrieved new content and will deal with it as such.

If you have not decided to add your date to your dating blog, be certain that Google will do this at a future date in time to make it easy for their users. Googles ultimate goal to provide the best benefit to the end user and we know that an end user can become increasingly frustrated not to find a valid date against your blog.

The ramifications as I said for placing a header constraint as done by Bing and Yahoo search engines are huge.

So they drop a few websites from their index, so what?

Consider doing a search for ‘Jumpdates’ which I did at the time of the issue… the results were extremely peculiar. Every site that linked to Jumpdates appeared in their first page except Jumpdates?

This potentially leaves a bitter taste with regards to this search engine and one would think it is totally flawed for omitting such information from its index. Typically users would then go to Google because as most people do these days, they cant be bothered to type the complete url of the site but rather find it through the search engines. A big score to the Google market share.

You can see now why ‘omitting’ information can be a bad thing and we will continue to discuss on the original topic but this example was given to drive home the point about the importance of providing complete information to the end user.

By the say, I am happy to report that Bing and Yahoo are indexing Jumpdates, and for what reason I still do not know. As for the future, I cannot say….

Why dating reviews don’t show their date of posting? - Online Dating Briefs by Dr. Dato - Part 7

To cut a long story short, the gist of the problem here is what I was saying earlier about good value comes from not dictating how others should use your product/service but constantly making improvements yourself.

What Bing/Yahoo has done is clearly violated this important snippet which will push them back rather than move forward particularly if they are to compete with the likes of Google. Basically they have constrained all owners of their websites to COMPLY with their crawler attributes otherwise the crawler will refuse to go scan your website and hence not index you. Yes! This is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard in my life especially coming from a big organization such as them.

Just visualize the repercussions of what all this means.

Basically, if your website does not get picked up by their crawlers because your index page header is non-compliant with their crawlers then indexing is dropped from their database. Also, if you must know, I was not informed that Jumpdates had in fact been dropped off their search engine indexing altogether.

First look at the dating review site - Topdatingpicks.com - Online Dating Briefs by Dr. Dato

Article Subject: First look at the dating review site - Topdatingpicks.com

Dr. Dato’s Brief:

The Topdatingpicks.com on first glance looks attractive with a good design showing a listing of the top dating sites along with readers votes and reviews. This is unlike other review sites that I have seen where the endorsement of the site is usually from the review site itself and due to the affiliation of the dating companies can be rather skewed.

What makes Topdatingpicks.com more believable is that they have listings of free dating sites which have many reviews written about them. It was interesting reading on my part where the views for some of the leading free dating sites were fairly negative primarily reflected in their experiences of people they had met on the site.

Unlike many of the other review sites where match.com usually comes out tops, in this case, perfectmatch.com appears to be the front contender for the best dating site.

You maybe asking ’so why the big deal, just get the header fixed and keep moving”. Well, that wasn’t the point of the issue, the real point is who is at fault here. Clearly in my mind Bing/Yahoo have got it wrong and it amazes me that companies with such fat wallets still manage to get such significant points wrong!

If you want to see the actual issue posted on Bings community forum, then click here.

To summarize Bing and Yahoo crawlers stopped indexing the Jumpdates site because it could not figure out some of the header information on the Jumpdates page. Their reply to me was to examine the header carefully and correct the mistake, but they could not pin-point where this issue was and added that they have strict rules for websites adhering to certain standards for their crawler. Say what?

I am sorry to say that the man who gave out such decisions should be fired and here is my reasoning if you haven’t figured it out yourself already.
