Many folks including singles are looking for ways to keep entertained throughout this holiday. Of course there will be plenty of friends and family members to keep you socially active but what about doing something different this time. People have been playing board games for thousands of years and one of the oldest board game Backgammon is still enjoyed today. This game involves two players who throw two dice to move their pieces to the other side of the board. Pieces can be removed from the board if another player lands on an area that is occupied by only one piece by the opponent. The strategy of capturing and keeping safe your pieces makes for a game that can be both strategic and with some luck.

Cluedo is another fun game for up to six players. The game involves trying to use the power of deduction to determine the murderer, murder weapon and the location of the murder. These cards are picked in random at the beginning of the game and players throw two dice to move around the board. They have the ability to call a person, weapon into the room that they currently landed and request members of the player to their left if they have any of these pieces. Thus by the power of elimination, one can determine which cards have been left out of the game ie. the cards inside the murder envelope.

Another fun game that has gone through many mutations in its history is Monopoly. However, the original classic Monopoly which had it’s origin back in 1923 is still enjoyed by many. The game revolves around a board that contains famous roads, stations and other chance squares where players land and with the money available to them they can purchase any property. The board consists of famous landmark streets such as Regents Street of London. If another player lands on a purchased property then they are forced to pay rent. The object of the game is to become a property tycoon where you control many properties with houses and hotels and force other players to pay exorbitant rent and thus make them bankrupt.

Board games are a great and fun way for a family or a group of friends to get together and have some fun during these winter holidays. Keep the holiday blues away by bringing out one of these old board games and inviting a friend or family over for some fun!
