It is very easy to woo and impress by buying your fiance or a date an expensive gift that you cannot afford. However, the truth is that you need to remain in check with your current standing in financial matters. If you do desire the luxurious brands but don’t have the means, then why not look for ways of improving your income so that you will be able to afford these items. If you are finding that you are very controlling of your finances, it is possible that you will end up with a few friends. You may also find yourself trying to scrounge money from others rather than sharing and spending it fairly. People like these are digging a hole for themselves.
Whatever categories you belong to, the idea of self-image can determine one’s personality. If your desire is to please others then you may need to look into your yourself and analyze and question where you stand. It is often the qualities that you possess as an individual which have no bearing on what you wear or buy that determines the longevity of a good and healthy relationship.

You probably know of the story by Charles Dickens called ‘‘Scrooge’ where a rich accountant counts every penny and lives a sorry life until he finally wakes up to his mistakes. Please make sure you don’t fall into this category, since this could be one of the most disliked self-images that anyone can possess. There are so many people who are struggling to make ends meet but here is an individual who has large amounts of money but spends very little on himself or on others. The quality of relationships are based on empathy and one who is balanced with their way of spending is more likely to succeed.

Buying luxury items for the sake of looking good can echo a self-image that is not in line with your character. It is possible that many people will look at these people as being superficial rather than having any depth. Many do so with the aim of attracting the opposite sex however, it has to be done with a balance. If one is able to afford the clothes, car and any other luxury items without having to over stretch themselves financially then it will be reflected in their personalities. You need to consider which of the below categories that you belong to that says much about your personality.
(1) You have a tendency to overspend on designer labels and names.
It is possible that you have an infatuation for looking good and representing an image that is more on the surface than what lies underneath. You may be able to attract the people that you want initially but the long-term projection of your relationships will not look good. Think about it for a moment, if you are a man and you wan’t to attract that sassy looking lady then your chances of keeping that woman will be slim. She naturally thinks that this is your own weak self-image and you are trying to be a different person to who you really are. Once she finds that out, you will be dismissed but not on the basis that you can’t afford the expensive products but more because you have a weak self-esteem. Some men in this category will have success in wooing many women but they will inevitably end up with women who were wooed for those superficial reasons in the first place. Keep in check your spending habits and you can be far more attractive and attract the right kind of individuals without trying to distort your self-image.

I recently went to a local shopping precinct that has opened up here in Pleasanton, California. This new shopping venue is different in that it had many of the famous shopping names that you only find in top notch areas such as Beverly Hills or 5th Ave, New York. Designer labels such as Prada, Bang & Olufsen, Movado and many others. I got thinking and wondered what kind of people would purchase these high-end clothes, attire etc which may be ten times costlier than a typical high street shop. What kinds of people are these and how is self-image important to them.

Naturally, these high end boutique shops must have an audience if they wanted to sell a $500 hand-bag which they have plenty of. I believe a person makes a very personal statement if they choose a Versace pants over one found at Sears say. The first question that comes to mind, is whether these groups of people have to have a lot of disposable income in order to purchase these high end products. In my opinion, although it is safe to say that many high income bracket earners will have the purchasing power for these kind of products, there are will also be a group of people who will purchase these products by saving up or buying on credit. A typical case is when you purchase a car, and many buy on higher purchase and make payments monthly whereas others pay cash outright.
There is definitely a feel-good factor that makes people desire these high end fashion items and this tells us a story about this individual person. People have a craving to feel good and buying attractive goods that you can adorn or play with can boost one’s ‘happiness’ factor. There is no doubt many men will get an instant buzz when they acquire a brand new car and more so if it’s a car that they always wanted. Similarly, the female gender will gloat over clothing and shoes that dazzle themselves and their friends. Why do we make these choices and how does it affect our self-image?
