What we can learn from the recent Lance Armstrong revelation
Thursday, January 17th, 2013
Lance Armstrong was an athlete where his career spanned a quarter of a century in cycling. Last year he was stripped of all of his career titles including the famous Tour de France and was hit with a lifetime ban from the sport. It is one of those stories where if you can get away with it then ‘why not’. Unfortunately many people not just professional athletes or celebrities can be guilty of these kind of tactics. It’s important to understand how that these kind of situations arises from people and the importance of good moral conduct. In particular, a single person must be convinced that the person they are dating is of good standing and character, otherwise they may become a victim to a narcissist.
We all understand the word ‘temptation’ and this quality is a good test for anyone regarding moral conduct and behavior. A simple example would be stealing. If we had the right upbringing and character development then it would be considered bad to steal irrespective of any circumstances. What about if you found a $100 bill in a venue and you decided to pocket this rather than hand it in, would that be considered immoral. The gray area disappears when the advantages of having it without being caught or persecuted outweighs everything else.

The same can be said of a relationship, one may have the utmost conduct and moral personality but if the opportunity presents itself, many people do take it. The question becomes, how much does one go to get the personal gain at the expense of someone else or others. It is true that if someone is demanding, their expectations are more on what they want out of the relationship rather than the relationship being about you. Someone’s self interest and a focus on their own personal gain is a reflection of their character and it may not be well suited to you. This is where we speak about give and take in a relationship.
In Lance Armstrong’s case the initial desire for fame and fortune overshadowed any other scruples or morals that he may have had. He simply became blinded by these inner desires and the ease at which he got away with it made him do it all that more. We live in a world of many Armstrongs and before we dismiss him too quickly we need to check our own moral standing and character and ask ourselves how far do we go.

End of the Era for Dating? Yes! No! May Be!
Wednesday, January 16th, 2013
The recent article on NY Times calling dating an obsolete trend in the modern era raised questions on change in the style of singles meeting up these days. NY time posted this article under the category FASHION was enough to raise a few alarms.
With the series of examples from women coming from various background and class in the society all agree to the fact that it’s more of a social or group event can be termed as “hooking up / hanging out”. Particularly men are not putting efforts into making it a date. Their approach towards dating is too casual and has become the biggest turn off for women.
The Smartphones and texting habits are making all this worse. NY Times finds out that guys are not even reaching out to female properly in the preferred way to ask a date has become a sort of test message.
Jumpdates think that their point is valid but, it’s definitely not the end of dating and it’s the evolution of the way single men and women interact. It is still in the evolutionary phase and these singles are trying various means before finding which is more convenient.
How would you react to a date that has a gun?
Wednesday, January 16th, 2013
We sometimes forget that living in a land of plenty that some things are borne out of necessity while other things have been culturally influenced. Many would agree that recent events in gun killings and where typically 43 persons die each day from gun violence here in the US that some serious actions need to be taken.

The US is probably the only nation that as an amendment clause that gives everyone the right to bear arms. This is understandable in the days when lawlessness was rife and we did not have the protection of the state police that we have today. However, are guns really necessary these days? I have spoken to a few advocates of gun use and they always seem to say the same thing which our great great grandfathers did and that is we need protection in case anyone invades our property. The intent to kill for any reason is abhorrent in my opinion unless you fear for you own safety and life. How does this equate to someone else’s views especially if you are close or you are dating them.
There is no doubt that someones aggressive stance in acquiring and maintaining a gun reflects much in their personality. Is it really for the protection of the well being or is it an act of showing power. I believe in these modern times, it is the latter. If your date does possess a gun, you are likely to be dating a person who relishes power. On the other hand you may also be dating a person that has low self esteem and gets a boost from possessing firearms. Gun possession represents a symbolic power that most likely changes as soon as someone makes first use of it. Take for example the 1992 western movie ‘Unforgiven’ starring Clint Eastwood and Morgan Freeman. These two had-been gunslingers come across a young rookie who has never used a gun and shows off his prowess with the gun but goes into deep brooding as soon as he kills someone for the first time.
The use of firearms has to be for the right reasons, make sure you get the right answers from your date who does possess a gun.
