Article Subject: Why dating reviews don’t show their date of posting? - Part 4

Now the other point of not posting dates on your blogs is because you want to ‘fool’ the search engines to think that your blog is always current and having a date defeats that. Again you cannot be further from the truth and this kind of tactics are very likely to hurt you in traffic than anything else.

Have you wondered the reason for Google’s success?

Apart from the fact that they have an excellent product, they also have a working culture unlike many other companies and this is ‘transparency’. Transparency is what allows the free flow of information between individuals and creates an atmosphere within the company that allow innovation and creative ideas to keep them ahead of the curve.

Good and successful companies never dictate what the end user should be doing to use their product or service but works towards making it even better.

I will provide a good example in the next post, so you can have a better grasp of what I am trying to say.

Many bloggers in the dating world decide to adopt the policy of omitting the dates on their post but this is not without peril. As explained previously these myths are promoted by bloggers to keep guessing both the user and the search engines from knowing its date of origin and these can have serious consequences.

The first myth of keeping the user on your post so as not to detract them from not going ahead and reading the post due to its age. Let’s assume that you have a blog that has been running for a number of years now and you have a collection of quality dating articles that you spent tirelessly over the years and posting them to your site. You may think that omitting the date information will make readers keep ‘current’ with the information, but nothing can be further from the truth.

Let’s assume that the reader pulls up a blog that appears to be current ie. no date but in actual fact is three years old and the reader begins to read it. He is over time going to think that some of the material written about eharmony no longer applies because even though the date is not stipulated on the post, the content is clearly out of date. What happens?

Your user loses ‘credibility’ to the authenticity of your posts regardless of how recent some of your posts are and would not consider you as authoritarian in your field of subject and will most likely leave and look elsewhere.

Previously, we discussed how many dating website blogs deliberately do not display their dates on the post or the url to make their post and article almost ‘timeless’. There are various reasons for doing this and the list shows some (but not a complete list) of why.

Having no date implies that if the article or post is read in the future say one or two years from now, any new readers to the post will assume that the post is current and will continue to read the post.

Having no date means that Google or other search engines will not be able to tell when the post was written and therefore put up a higher ranking in its index along with other current posts.

I will try to explain why following these myths are not only bad for the Google search engine, but also for the readers reading the post.

Article Subject: Why dating reviews don’t show their date of posting?

Dr. Dato’s Brief:

It’s a sad fact, but many of the sites especially the blog sites that I visit to do further reading and research have their date of originality missing ie. the date when the post was made.

I don’t know about you, but I was taught from a young age at school that the first thing we do on our writing page is apart from making the title in bold or underline, we always had to have a date next to it. It seems that this situation does not apply to some blogs and I have some of my theories for this.

I have heard from some dating bloggers that omitting dates from the permalink has benefits to search engines and by omitting the date from the post altogether can make your post or article timeless. I will attempt to remove that myth with supporting arguments of why it is actually bad to exclude dates out of your blog posting or article.

Is match.com really that good? - Online Dating Briefs by Dr. Dato

Article Subject: Is match.com really that good?

Dr. Dato’s Brief:

I was reviewing more dating review sites and came across yet another one consumersearch.com. One has to be a bit careful as to some of the content written by review sites as they can have a strong affiliation with dating companies because the payout can be quite significant if you can refer them many potential visitors.

On the face of it, the website consumersearch.com is a well known household name and it would appear that their opinions can be taken with some authority without prejudice. Although I have not researched enough of their reviews on other products and services, you can normally tell if there are some bias towards a specific site or not by carefully following their wording.

In such a case they have placed three dating sites at the top with Mach.com coming out clearly as the winner. This is not surprising at all since Match has won numerous accolades in the dating industry and its presence is very strong and of course very much influential. Their conclusions are based on three other sites that offering their opinions on the top dating sites. These include the sites DatingSitesReviews.com, Dating Conference 2010 and realsimple.com.

There are mixed reviews by the last two reviewers and DatingSitesReviews.com appear to have the most positive.
