Article Subject: Contextual advertising in online dating
Dr. Dato’s Brief:
So online dating does not have the stigma once associated with it and you talk to a friend and proudly confess that you met your sweetheart through this great online dating site. This may even encourage you to try it and see for yourself.
It has been said that one in five couples now meet online and a majority through the online dating services that seem to be all over the place. If you ever pay attention to the adverts that come up time and time again when you browse the internet, you may be wandering how these sites have figured out how they unwittingly know that you are looking for a car to purchase and maybe looking for a date?
This is all down to contextual advertising where the major websites of today not only conduct the clicks and traffic coming to their site but they conduct ‘behavioral analysis’ of each of the users.
For example, you may be looking for a date in say facebook because you clicked on one of the ads related to a dating site. Rest assured you will be seeing more of those targeted advertising next time you came back to the site. In the same way you check your email in gmail, yahoo or hotmail, the behavioral analysis (or engines) of these websites allow them to push very contextually driven ads. to your page.
In effect the page you are viewing has been ‘custom’ designed with its own unique advertisements just made for you!

New MrRight.com.au dating site started by Mr. Right? - Online Dating Briefs by Dr. Dato

Article Subject: New MrRight.com.au dating site started by Mr. Right?
Dr. Dato’s Brief:
Apparently, we have yet another one of these new dating sites clambering to get noticed with their unique way of getting two people together. If only I realized that it was such an overwhelming task of getting two people together and keeping them together
This website from down under called MrRight.com.au was founded by Matt Right (uh!), hmm.. wandering if his persona has anything to do with this. However, he has claimed that his dating site was inspired by women.
The premise of the site is very simple, women go to the website and pick the men they would want to date and place them in a shopping bag and the lucky few men can communicate with the woman as long as she feels comfortable. If at any time the woman is displeased with any of the men, she can simply remove the man from her cart and there is no further communication with the man.
The idea came about because according to the founder Matt Right, many women in the online dating services are inundated with rude and obnoxious men that can put them off from dating altogether. In this way, women have complete control and men can sit back and let the women choose them. How sad for the ones who never get picked, reminds me of back in the times when some kids would site right at the back of the class and watch the world go by…

Post Subject: Datemyschool - a facebook type dating site? - Online Dating Briefs by Dr Dato
Dr. Dato’s Brief:
This new website called Datemyschool.com was created by Columbian MBA students Balazs Alexa and Jean Meyer back in Nov. 2010. They had received $500,000 from private investors and went live with the site aiming first at Columbia and New York University.
The site has now over 7,000 users including people who signed up from the Fashion Institute of Technology as someone from the inside was told that there were lots of attractive women who would be good matches for some of the guys from Columbia.
Although, we haven’t reviewed the website in details, the site allows you to be selective as to how visible you want to make your profile ie. visible to law, business or engineering as examples. The focus tends to be on matching people who are ambitious and career minded people judging by the sites target for elite universities. A review of this site to follow shortly, but I would need an .edu email for that

Dr. Dato’s Brief:
Not another one you say, yep.. it’s another dating site in this PR release that has been launched for the Baltimore/DC area. Business must surely be going well for the online dating industry judging by the number of dating sites that are coming into this market along with spectacular yearly profits reported by Match.
There is no escaping that online dating does really work and it’s providing a growing number of people who have lost the stigma of finding dates online a long time ago and they are now perfectly content to be socializing on Facebook, Twittering to friends and so why not online dating!
The concept behind HowAboutWe is interesting as it sort of borders between a website that focuses on specific interest groups but yet gives you autonomy like many of the other online dating sites. Basically users submit ideas for good dating ideas such as “How about we…grab turkish cuisine, try hookah, watch belly dancing…” and the user will receive proposals of such activities from others in their inbox who share similar interests. If any of the ideas seems good, the user can then check out their profiles and get to know them.
We in fact have done a review of the HowAboutWe dating site in our Startup Online Dating Sites review section.

Dr. Dato’s Brief:
This is a post from the new series created by Huffington Post called HuffPostTech, Socialized and allows social startups such as apps, services to websites to be featured here.
Today, the feature is called ‘Luv@FirsTweet’ which as you can guess is a twist in the online dating with the goal of using the speed and ease of Twitter to find pontential dates.
Launched this January, it is a free Twitter-based dating service and eliminates the profile building and browsing typical of many other dating sites according to the founder Jonathan Lehr. How this works, is that you start following luvatfirsttweet account with your own Twitter handle and you respond to any of the daily tweets like “What tv show do you make sure to watch every week?” and you can reply using @replies. In this way the system builds up your profile and according to Lehr it’s perfect for the busy person to build their profile and we can match them to our algorithms.
To get started just visit Luv@FirstTweet’s website, or follow them on @LuvAtFirstTweet. Interesting concept, let’s see how well it does.
