It is only in completely letting go of someone, in not "needing" them for our happiness, that we have the freedom to truly love them. Otherwise, we only love a construct, some contrived, conjured up image that we have of them or that we wish for them to have of us. As long as we "need" someone, as long as someone "needs" us, someone is working to meet expectations, someone is manipulating the other, and someone is trying to change to become what the other will continue to love. That's not love; it's addiction... I believe that a relationship should be a journey, an adventure, while being conscious that it's the pebble in one's sandal, not the rocky path, that makes the journey intolerable. I'm mindful to never again be that pebble. I've learned from my choices and have come to know that love has no expectations, no judgment, no agenda. A lover is there to provide the encouragement, support, passion, adventure, inspiration and occasional jab in the ribs that adds richness to life... It hasn't been easy or without psychic pain, but I'm releasing my attachment to most of the temporal things I've acquired in life. They may assuage the fear of death, but also come to own you. There is nothing--family, friends, lovers, possessions, power, wealth, health, social status, physical beauty--that cannot be taken from us at any time for any reason or for no reason at all. I cook. I mean, I really cook. I particularly enjoy cooking, grocery shopping or vegetable gardening together. What do I look for in a woman? A woman who shares views and spiritual awareness that are similar to mine. Someone who knows that power, prestige,possessions, winning, success, honor, affirmation, physical beauty, religion, political beliefs are just concepts, conventions that do not correspond to reality, and that they cannot make you happy for more than a few fleeting moments.
