I once had a rude awakening when I was sat in a class and we were talking about group theory as it applies to the work place.
We were talking about communication between two people and the subject of verbal communication between a man and a woman came about.

The speaker had pointed out how it took him a very long time to fully appreciate the types of conversation that takes place between a man and a woman and provided an example of himself and his wife.
His wife had one day come back from work and talking about the day’s event and he listened to what she had to say attentively and tried to provide solutions to the problems that his wife was talking about.
It took him a while to understand that his wife was purely getting the whole days events off her shoulders and wasn’t looking for fixes but just someone to talk to.
