Titanic: Immortal Love Story From James Cameron
Movie: Titanic
Director: James Cameron
Year: 1997
Stars: Leonardo DiCaprio, Kate Winslet
Snapshot of Story:
The tale centers around the actual epic ship disaster of 1912 but James Cameron stylishly recreated the whole story around a romance in the best way imaginable.
Kick Start of Romance:
Titanic on its maiden voyage left Southampton, England docks bound for New York carrying over 2,200 people. The ship was a marvel of technology and man’s achievement of the industrial era and was hailed as one of the great feats of its time. The Titanic was equipped with luxuries to serve the upper class as well as cabins and dormitories for the middle and lower class. The story centers around a couple who unexpectedly come from two polarised classes with Rose DeWitt Bukater played by Kate Winslet from an aristocratic background and Jack Dawson played by Leondardo DiCaprio coming from a working class.
What is interesting in this movie is another showing that love transcends all boundaries and ultimately passion lies in the true hearts of individuals no matter what their background. Rose is increasingly frustrated by the lavish and wasteful lifestyle of the wealthy that is surrounding her and is bored by the person she is set to marry. Along comes Jack with full of spirit and energy and both Rose and Jack hit it off instantly. He takes Rose through a whirlwind of exciting moments through the ship and introduces her to his fellow comrades. Rose is so taken back by the easiness and unselfish approach to life which was in stark contrast to the stuffy and haughty life she was used to. Her attraction to Jack heightens and the director Cameron gives his magic touch to the mesmerizing scenes along the gigantic ship coupled with the beautiful lyrics and song ‘My heart will go on..’ by Celine Dion.
Another highlight of the movie was the end where we go forwards in time to the present time and Rose at her old age throws the precious diamond back into the sea. It is a simple gesture of her great love for Jack who perished in the sinking of the Titanic.
Twist in the Tale:
The twist in the tale happens towards the end where Rose throws back the much treasured diamond back into the sea, the very item that the expedition was launched in order to retrieve this diamond.
On Screen Chemistry:
There is definitely great on-screen presence between the two stars. The whole movie makes these two characters very believable. The part where they unexpectedly meet on the ship and the part where they make love in one of the grand cars housed below deck.
Happy Ending:
Unfortunately its a tragic ending where Jack is drowned in the ship wreck but keeps Rose always by his side and effectively saves her from drowning.
Rating:
8.5/10
