Women who are looking for a serious man can have a hard time finding suitable mates primarily because of the lack of professional jobs in that town.
On the other hand men may find the task easier but nevertheless the ‘confident outlook’ living in Santa Cruz may not be rosy for most, especially if you are in a profession where jobs are lacking in that area.
Inevitably people of that town take up jobs which are less than their ability in order to stay in the town and have means of survival.
The forward thinkers will most likely move to greener pastures such as the big city where the choices will be greater and more readily available to them.
