Throughout our generation we have witnessed parents having very conflicting viewpoints with their children when it comes to the subject of dating, sex and relationships. Some guidelines can be adhered to that helps to alleviate problems that can potentially arise when dating at a young age and at the same time engaging in sex.
Most of us as we grow up to mature adults have had parental pressures at one time or another on the subject of sex.
Since this topic is considered taboo by some parents it is often not discussed in family circles and the children are often left to make their own choices and as a consequence can make decisions that have a painful result not only on the child but the parent too.
I believe as a caring and responsible parent, advice on this subject should be given to children as best as possible by the time they enter puberty.

It is a myth that some parents have when they assume that talking about this subject can open up their children to early promiscuity so they would rather choose the option of not talking about it at all.
Parents who choose this option of not talking about it can have damaging consequences to the child.

Children must feel that they can trust this circle and have their say and feel safe in that knowledge.
Some parents introduce religion as the binding decision of all matters relating to sex and this can also lead to complications.
Religion has played a vital part in many people’s lives in keeping them in check and providing structure and purpose to their daily lives.
However, as a parent it is very important to discuss religion in the context of today’s life as it matters to your child and family.

Communication and your personal feelings and opinions are equally important on this subject and must be discussed with your child.
This provides them with a more grounded approach to their lives and not just an arbitrary and a theoretical basis required for living.
Young people as they grow up are witnessing sexual development within their bodies as well as internal feelings that they never had before.
It is part of the development process and as a parent it’s wise to be aware of that and help them through this process.
Many teenagers based on their own personality and tied to their family upbringing will deal with each situation in their own unique way.
