Using search engines to locate good free dating sites - Part 10 - Online Dating Briefs by Dr. Dato

Article Subject: 10. Make your search work for you
Dr. Dato’s Brief:
Now the ’snippets’ of the search results page (SERPs) that you want to look at and make sure to read what is there before clicking to your heart’s content.
The snippet has not come about by random, there is some logic to the way it has been structured.
The first line which is in bigger text than the body of the snippet are the exact words pulled from the title tag of the home page of the website displayed. So assume that you had a ‘free dating website’, then you could choose a title like ‘100% Free Dating Site’ or more specifically ‘Free Dating Site for Seniors’.
The next two lines of the snippet are text that has been pulled off the home page content of the website and usually resides in the meta tags of the html code of the page.
The third line contains information to ‘quick links’ that are accessible from the home page and displayed here on the home page for quick and direct access to the points of interest on the other parts of the site.
The fourth line is the actual link of the site, basically the domain name or url of the website and is followed by the ‘Cached’ and ‘Similar links. The Cached link provides a snapshot of the website at a previous point in time taken by Google and the Similar link shows you other related sites that have references from the snippet site.

Using search engines to locate good free dating sites - Part 9 - Online Dating Briefs by Dr. Dato

Article Subject: 9. Searching is the key to great things
Dr. Dato’s Brief:
When you typed in ‘free dating sites’, you will see a page with probably about 10 listings unless you have the returned set (SERP) to be at 100, in which case you will have hundred listed in one page. If you are used to scrolling and scanning quickly, then you may find increasing the displayed result sets in the advanced search section will be beneficial to you.
As we have learnt, the main area of focus are the ‘organic’ results that have been returned by Google. You will notice that each result or ’snippet’ as Matt Cutts of Google likes to put it points to information directly related to a website. The fortunate few of the websites that appear in the organic listings have been very well analyzed by Googles search engine algorithm and placed there as the most important matches representative of those group of keywords.
If you do believe in Googles ‘faith’ in delivering those results then you only need to go through a handful of those websites on those pages to find the website you are looking for. From statistics of user searches, it has been shown that most users do in fact click through the links that appear on the home page and a small minority will go through the other pages.
I would recommend to examine the websites in probably 3 pages of the results.

Dr. Dato’s Brief:
This post mentions variations of online dating sites that some of our users are astute to but other may not. I will try to clarify the different systems that are used by the various dating sites out there.
Matching System
These types of dating sites usually have a very lengthy questionnaire that users have to fill in before they can register to their site. It’s not something you can skip because it is this very information that the dating sites will use to pass through their dating algorithms in order to match you to other members on the website. Such dating sites include eHarmony, eVow and a host of others.
Search System
These dating sites allow you to go through a very simplified registration process often takes just a few minutes before you can become a member of these sites. Once you are logged in to the dating site, you are free to browse and search for other members on the website. The search criteria can be by location, age, photo and other options which allows you to limit the returned search to your exact needs. Such dating sites include zoosk, bandoo and more.
Hybrid System
This type of dating system does both of the above. Usually the system will allow you to register fairly quick to the website and you can go to a section where you can also find your matches that has been delivered by the matching algorithm of the site. To get the best results you need to plugin as much information about yourself into the system through their pages like ‘Edit Profile’ or ‘Update Profile’. Such dating sites include Plentyoffish, Jumpdates, Datehookup and more. Some of these sites will deliver your matches via an emil such as Jumpdates.
Hopefully this will help our readers to appreciate the kind of technology that goes on behind the scenes. Watch this space for more information on this subject.
