I would steer away from any sites that suggest that you can make money overnight by following their methods or purchasing their e-book.

You may have seen infomercials that offer internet courses and ebay tools to make you instant millionaires.

These belong to the same category of very un-trusted methods and the only real money being made is the company that is advocating the sales material to the public.

I once attended a local ecommerce course and they sounded very convincing of the fact that money could be made easily on the net.

In their introductory seminar they gave away goodies to entice people to join their weekend workshop where they were going to snare all the poor buyers.

Needless to say, their workshop appeared to many ill-informed users like a dream come true and invariably a few of them parted with their hard earned money.

Their products/services were typically worth a few thousand dollars as opposed to many comparable services you can find online for less than $100.

So sad that people still fall for this gimmick.

Please do not follow quick scheme methods to riches, it simply doesn’t work and I have been in the business of the internet close to 14 years.

My experience has taught me that nothing comes easily to the hand until you put much effort and brains behind it.

So how do we go about making money online, in particular with the free dating site example that we are trying to create?

Firstly you will need to dedicate yourself a bunch of time that you can work on your website almost on a daily basis and this has to be done almost routinely and consistently.

Secondly, you will need to be astute in basic html, programming, internet terminologies and other familiar tools of the internet.

If you are a complete novice in html, be prepared to spend some money by outsourcing the work to freelancers you can find in elance.com or guru.com.

You may need to hire a technology expert to help you with some of the key decisions about the site.

It really does help to understand something of the technology and at the bare minimum you should be able to ftp to your site and tweak html page changes on the fly.

In my first webmaster role, I was stationed in New York where I was placed in charge in developing a brand new online booking system for the company.

There was one gentlemen of the ‘old school’ kind who had some knowledge of the internet but was unable to do anything useful with it.

It took me 15 minutes to show him the ftp tool and how to access the page and pull it into an editor and make updates to the web page.

All his misconceptions of this technology disappeared and in a very short period of time he was designing web pages, something that he had never done before.

I saw the same rate of progress with other individuals that I have shown and again their progress were very rapid. It was as though an entire window had opened up for them.
