Here is an interesting thought about desires and expectations from each of the partners during dating. I found some interesting feedback and comments from users on this website regarding this subject.

From what I could gather from the conversation, expectations are exclusively in areas of respect, courtesy, hygiene, manners and so forth, while desires are what you would expect in love or the emotional content of the relationship. Although, I am not sure if I got this completely right because the meaning of desire is to want or crave something while expectation is something that is expected as a rule.

Since relationships are highly complex, I don’t believe you can make a comparison of the two words since they have no real dependency but you could say that desire is based on one’s own internal needs which may not have been conveyed to the other person.
