Dr. Dato’s Brief:
This post talks about the dos and dont’s of finding a date online by Joy Browne who is author of Dating For Dummies (3rd Edition). Although, I am fairly certain that the book will go into much more detail than the information on this post, nevertheless, there is good advise here and I would recommend further reading.
Some of the important points about posting a profile and dating online that is mentioned in the post include the following;
- Be precise when writing your profile
- Think about what makes you unusual and focus on those points to make yourself stand out
- Make your English teacher proud (I mentioned this point previously in my Dr Dato posts)
- Be honest with yourself, I particularly like her remark about shaving a year or two is ok with age, but decades are questionable
- Practice safety and date within 25 mile radius

Dr. Dato’s Brief:
Here is another good post on a happy success story where a couple met through an online dating site and some helpful tips for the user.
The couple like so many of us were skeptics and didn’t believe in soul mates or love at first site until they met each other.
One simple trend that I see every time I read about success stories is that both couple went slowly into the relationship. There have been cases where couples clicked right away and were immediately swept away and those cases tend to be rare and normally end up in a broken relationship.
Their tips to successful online dating includes the following;
- Remain anonymous until you feel comfortable
- Get to know each other as much as possible before a meeting
- Never share your financial information
- Meet in a public place

Dr. Dato’s Brief:
With Valentine’s Day just round the corner, here are more handy tips to make you an online dating expert.
The suggestions I have seen repeated time and time again is to be honest and be truthful in your profile. Just think about it, if you were to meet the other person and you ended up liking that person, you will have to do some serious explaining about your ‘fibs’ and this may lead to distrust and in the worst case he/she drops you. It may sound appealing to fib about something just to make sure you pull in those profiles but at the end of the day it’s not worth it.
Instead of telling fibs, why not just simply make the rest of your profile more interesting. Just to give you some example, lets say have a pet peev about your age, why not say something like “I maybe (age), but I am fit as a fiddle and love sports”.
Another example, “I am working hard to keep in shape and hopefully my partner will want the same”
Another important aspect of online dating, is to be persistent and treat it with passion so you will enjoy looking over profiles, responding to emails, receiving emails and in this way you will most definitely increase your chances of finding a great partner.

Dr. Dato’s Brief:
A rather quaint and amusing post on ‘reading between the fine print’ when it comes to reading women’s profile in the online dating sites.
Zack Taylor makes good points on specific items to watch out for so you don’t make the mistakes that he had come across when he was in the online dating scene. Here is a few that I have summarized for your interest.
1. Usernames
Look out for usernames that say something like SexyGrl48, HappyGwen etc. These are sure indicators of what they are not ie. sexy or happy.
2. Headshots
If they only show headshot, they are probably hiding something like their body weight or something else.
3. Ranting profiles
If a woman clearly stipulates ‘no guys that lie or cheat..’, they are likely to have come out of a bad relationship or relationships and will most likely take out their frustration on you.
4. Rebound guy
Avoid women who say they have recently broken up, unless you want to be the rebound guy.
The bottom line is try to read between the lines before raising your expectation.

Dr. Dato’s Brief:
This post has been written by Julie Spira who is an online dating expert. Here she provides tips to women on trying to get more men to respond to your dating profile and land those all important dates.
1. Refresh and Socialize Your Profile.
She suggests a quick make over of your profile with new photos (current) to get you started in the dating game.
2. Don’t Wait. Initiate.
This is sound advice where she encourages you the woman to take the lead and start nudging, sending winks and emailing some of the male profiles. She sets a target of 5 new daily matches in your inbox and says that meeting for coffee, drink etc. can make this task easier and manageable.
3. Become a Digital Flirt.
This is an interesting tip and one that I would agree. I think we all get too tense and uptight about who to contact and here she is saying to just flirt online. Some relationships can start with a flirtation with a friend.
4. Like Him Back.
Flattery is the way to go here, if a man has shown interest, show an equal interest by emailing back.
5. The Magic of 5.
Try to get at least 5 dates for the week and set the Valentines day as your target goal. It is not as overwhelming as one thinks.
I want to add that some people often look at the negative aspects of dating and let this defeat them at the onset. It is wise to keep your mind open and think of the unexpected that can happen. Life is more interesting when you actually don’t know what lies ahead.
