Dr. Dato’s Brief:
Continuing from the last post on providing a real example of what separates Google from say Bing/Yahoo, I will now provide you with a real live example that I came across with regards to Jumpdates.com.
It wasn't for a good few months I had realized that traffic from Bing and Yahoo had whittled down to almost zero whereas traffic from Google search engines was going strong.
Upon further investigation, I had discovered to my dismay that Bing and Yahoo had dropped Jumpdates from it's search index altogether. It wasn't until many numerous communications with the help desk of Bing/Yahoo that I finally had an idea of what the problem was.
The reason for Jumpdates not appearing in the search engines of Bing/Yahoo (which by the way are now completely operated by Bing) was due to an error on the Jumpdates html header which wasn't correctly set for the index page.

Article Subject: 8. Searching is the key to great things
Dr. Dato’s Brief:
Previously we did a simple search for a keyword and submitted this to Google and saw some of the ‘useful’ tricks that Google has up it’s sleeves. If you are more alert to the way Google operates on the keywords and phrases you type into the search engine box, it will make you a better searcher than most.
Since we are trying to locate the best free dating sites that meet your needs, why not simply type ‘free dating sites’ into the search engine and see what is returned? Naturally one can do this but there is more information to be gleaned from just a few keywords and also the information that is returned in the search engine results page (SERPs).
If you typed those keywords into Google search engine, you will get a returned result sets that maybe different to what I would get. This is because google has several data centers that has algorithms that are not consistently in sync with each other. This is not to say that the results of each will be bad or worse from each other, it just means that their algorithms on the search engines change all the time to keep up with the rapid changes of the web. If this were not the case, then you are likely to see websites that have an outage or websites that have their domain dropped and not the most current information.
This is more so in the area of news, where it changes very rapidly, however, in free dating sites, you can assume that a majority of the sites are not doing anything meteoric in the space of a few minutes.

Article Subject: 5. The rudiments of a browser
Dr. Dato’s Brief:
Like anything else, for example, learning to dance, some of the fundamentals of the dancing are taught first like breaking down the steps. The same applies to using search engines and to maximize your effort in using these tools, you can rely on your intuition but it is so much better if you were armed with a handful of tips and shortcuts which over time will save you lots of time.
If you haven’t done so already, you will need to use some of the latest browsers for conducting your search. I know what you are saying, have been so comfortable using this ancient browser for so many years and you are comfortable with the buttons and where everything is positioned, why bother changing it. Again, this comes down to keeping up with the times, you will not only miss the new features that are available on the web but in fact your efficiency will be reduced.
Noticed, I said ‘efficiency’ and what this means is that you are actually less productive than you could be, if you spent a few hours trying to adapt to the new browser. One example of this would be the ‘tab’ feature which is extremely helpful to have as it opens a few windows within the same browser instead of multiple windows. Other examples include remembering your password etc. It will be time well spent, trust me. The folks at Microsoft, Apple and Google are burning the midnight oil trying to come up with usable products for you and not for them, because that is what keeps them in business.

Dr. Dato’s Brief:
Here in part 2 of the series we talk about the importance of getting good referrals of dating sites through your friends or relatives.
A common mistake most users often make and which some of the major dating companies take full advantage of is that new users are not savvy to the online dating world and so can be gently ‘persuaded’ to sign up.
You have probably at one time or another purchased a product that looks so good from the marketing material but when you actually used it, the thing sucked. The same is true when you shop for online dating sites. Keep in mind the ‘cosmetics’ and ‘marketing’ front that most dating sites will throw at you to sign up to their website.
As a rule of thumb, the word of mouth is a powerful motive for signing up to a dating service, so don’t be shy about asking your friends or relatives about their experiences of online dating sites. Since today one in five couples now meet through the online dating scene, there is a good chance you will come across people who have had experience with dating sites.

Article Subject: How good are the search engines in locating free dating sites - Part 1
Dr. Dato’s Brief:
Search engines have become a way of life for us and we typically go to them to search everything under the sun such as air tickets, locations using maps, doing research, finding your bank to look at your account and much more.
Many people are now typically using the search engine for finding websites that caters to online dating and the information presented here will provide you with some advice and tips to locating good free dating sites and dating related material for the person who is in search of their soul mate.
Of course you can always go to the top dating sites that you have seen aired in the TV, Radio and other places but they are likely to be for a paid subscription of anywhere between $30 - $50 a month. There are many excellent sites available that are 100% free and offer you access to meet thousands of other online daters also looking for some thing.
However, beware where you sign-up because some sites are designed to ‘hook’ you with the ‘FREE’ word and then once you have spent laboriously going through the registration process, you are immediately told that you need to bring your credit card out to go to the next stage. This is truly deceptive advertising and there should be some regulation behind this, however, since there is not, you need to be more astute to these things.
