Dr. Dato’s Brief:
Currently in the mainstream of the online dating world, there are two classes of online dating sites and they differ in the way that members choose to find their partner.
Method 1: Often called matchmaking relies on users submitting a long questionnaire of their personality characteristics, their needs and the partner they are looking for. In this way the system will try to find compatible matches for you based on those personality dimensions. One such site is eharmony.
Method 2: You submit a shorter version of your profile and you do the search. The site has tools to narrow down your search according to different criteria of the search ie. age, weight, location, interests etc. An example of such a site would be Jumpdates.com.
Really its all down to preference and your taste but studies have suggested that people who are more serious about dating tend to opt for the matchmaking whereas people who want to have more flexibility and a wider choice go for the other one.

The way this particular company worked was to give each pereson 8 minutes each to chat to 8 potential suitors, so effectively an hour for the whole thing.
They assigned each person a number and each of us were given 8 other numbers where you needed to rotate from one table to another to talk to them.
Naturally they also advised us on the type of questions that one should ask and we were to fill the appropriate sheet accordingly of our interest in the people we spoke with.
The whole event seemed to go fast as we were doing your rounds.
I found some interesting people but none that I felt had any real connection with.
After the event, the host gave us a website link where you can post your interest of the people in the group and see whether the other person had a mutual interest.

Both my friend and I thought it was quite fun and I think it was about $30 each and the food/snacks weren’t anything to shout home about.
After I got back home, I logged into their service I found that this was the area that was lacking in this service.
The design of the system was odd and I finally gave up and never knew if there was any mutual interest from anyone in the party.
Also, one of the problems due to the lack of any effectiveness on their site was that some people never logged in possibly due to the poor interface or something else.
I think the company could have done better to improve on this backend dating system to connect people better.
However, having used and developed a few dating sites myself, I can be somewhat more critical than others.
I went to this 8minute venture about 2 years ago approximately, so I cannot speak for their system now.

Conclusion:
It is worth trying the 8minuteDating process that the company offers but don’t expect lofty results, just go with an open mind and have fun in the process.
There are improvements that the company can make in certain areas such as the online dating system that people need to login to see any mutual interest after the party.
I have often found that companies that focus on the brick and mortar business usually don’t put enough thought and effort to the online business.
I can see this is a difficult business to take off the ground as it depends largely on referral from other users and a somewhat viral marketing.
To improve on this kind of service, requires all the modern technology of online marketing such as social media, efficient email marketing and now mobile marketing.
