The ramifications as I said for placing a header constraint as done by Bing and Yahoo search engines are huge.
So they drop a few websites from their index, so what?
Consider doing a search for ‘Jumpdates’ which I did at the time of the issue… the results were extremely peculiar. Every site that linked to Jumpdates appeared in their first page except Jumpdates?
This potentially leaves a bitter taste with regards to this search engine and one would think it is totally flawed for omitting such information from its index. Typically users would then go to Google because as most people do these days, they cant be bothered to type the complete url of the site but rather find it through the search engines. A big score to the Google market share.
You can see now why ‘omitting’ information can be a bad thing and we will continue to discuss on the original topic but this example was given to drive home the point about the importance of providing complete information to the end user.
By the say, I am happy to report that Bing and Yahoo are indexing Jumpdates, and for what reason I still do not know. As for the future, I cannot say….
