Now the other point of not posting dates on your blogs is because you want to ‘fool’ the search engines to think that your blog is always current and having a date defeats that. Again you cannot be further from the truth and this kind of tactics are very likely to hurt you in traffic than anything else.

Have you wondered the reason for Google’s success?

Apart from the fact that they have an excellent product, they also have a working culture unlike many other companies and this is ‘transparency’. Transparency is what allows the free flow of information between individuals and creates an atmosphere within the company that allow innovation and creative ideas to keep them ahead of the curve.

Good and successful companies never dictate what the end user should be doing to use their product or service but works towards making it even better.

I will provide a good example in the next post, so you can have a better grasp of what I am trying to say.

Many bloggers in the dating world decide to adopt the policy of omitting the dates on their post but this is not without peril. As explained previously these myths are promoted by bloggers to keep guessing both the user and the search engines from knowing its date of origin and these can have serious consequences.

The first myth of keeping the user on your post so as not to detract them from not going ahead and reading the post due to its age. Let’s assume that you have a blog that has been running for a number of years now and you have a collection of quality dating articles that you spent tirelessly over the years and posting them to your site. You may think that omitting the date information will make readers keep ‘current’ with the information, but nothing can be further from the truth.

Let’s assume that the reader pulls up a blog that appears to be current ie. no date but in actual fact is three years old and the reader begins to read it. He is over time going to think that some of the material written about eharmony no longer applies because even though the date is not stipulated on the post, the content is clearly out of date. What happens?

Your user loses ‘credibility’ to the authenticity of your posts regardless of how recent some of your posts are and would not consider you as authoritarian in your field of subject and will most likely leave and look elsewhere.
