Hrithik Roshan and Barbara Mori in Love Story - Kites
Movie: Kites
Director: Anurag Basu
Time: 2010
Stars: Hritik Roshan, Barbara Mori, Kangana Ranaut and Nicolas Brown
Snapshot of the story
Kites is an average story revolving around two lead characters Jai (played by Hritik Roshan) and Natasha (played by Barbara Mori). The flick goes with the hero being a salsa teacher and always on the pry to earn money by crooked means. His luck turns around when the doors open with a student who is a daughter of millionaire starts to become fond of him. But he falls for her brother’s fiancée and both elope.
Storyline
Jai (played by Hritik Roshan) lives in LA and earns his livelihood by teaching salsa classes and doesn’t mind getting extra bucks by any means possible. His luck comes knocking on the doors when his student Gina (played by Kangana Ranaut) falls in love with him and he comes to know that he is going to be a member of a millionaire family. While being in her house he meets Natasha (played by Barbara Mori), fiancée of Gina’s brother Tony (played by Nicolas Brown) and falls head over heals for her.
Jai and Natasha realize true love in their lives against the manipulative relationships they were maintaining till now. Both of them elope inviting the angst of Tony who wants them at any cost. The movie’s pace reduces instantly after this and it seems to be boring at some times. The movie then shows the romance between the two lovers and their randevous from place to place for survival and escaping from Tony and his men. Climax of the movie is not so cool and does not look convincing.
Final Thoughts
Not a very good movie but nevertheless a good one time watch. The movie is not able to engage the audience after such huge hype created during pre-release promotions. Performance wise all are good especially Barbara Mori and Hritik Roshan gets more credit as chemistry between both of them are incitingly sparkling. Despite being unfamiliar with each other’s language, they communicate through symbols and connect through momentary monosyllables establishing that love has no language. Barbara appears cute while speaking in broken English and radiates a stimulating smile that brightens up even the most mechanical scene.
Rating
Kites scores 6 out of 10 only because of good performance from Hrithik Roshan and Barbara Mori. Music of the movie is disappointing and so is direction. It was hard to understand why Rakesh Roshan did not direct the movie and asked Anurag Basu to direct Kites.
