As mentioned, we often get tense and weary of the situation because we have a tendency to put too much thought into the process.
You have heard the adage before, just be yourself and be totally natural.
Being natural means because of your interesting personality and character, you ARE interesting to talk to and this is the way you will come across other people when you chat to them the first time.
‘Pick-up’ lines are defeating to the person if you think of it that way, because what it entails is that you are following a contrived way to get to talk to that individual.
Worst of all, you can feel that if the outcome was not in your favor you dismiss it as such ‘oh it was a pickup line’ and didn’t work.
